This is some footage straight from the lab that was shot on 7219, rated at 800, with a one stop push. Transfer was on a Spirit. it was an unsupervised flat pass telecine onto HDSR, then rendered to a drive as a 1920x1080 ProRes 422HQ. Vimeo compression gets rid of a lot of the grain, so here are some stills from the original quicktime: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/b66wby9zoaro0zx/AACshQrxKQuknafW2SvVAqgga?dl=0 Shot on an SR3 Super16 with Zeiss Super Speed 16mm primes.

This is a 1 minute clip of the short film THE KILLERS, shot on a 60 year old Mitchell BNCR camera with vintage Super Baltar lenses! Shot on Kodak 35mm neg to give that film noir look. Alex Chikov directed. When Alex contacted me to shoot his short, he insisted on using my Mitchell BNC camera and glass...and I was more than happy to oblige! I insisted we go total old school and use ALL tungsten fresnel lights, no Kinos, LEDs or HMI....we wanted that look and feel of that era. We shot in an abandoned 40's diner, the art department restored it to its original glory and gaffer Russ Faust and his clan brought it to life. Alex and I viewed many film noir pictures to recreate the lighting and shadow style of the era..the fedora hats always create a challenge to light the face, but we nailed it! This was an actual location with practical walls, so moving that gigantic camera and working hot lights inside a metal building created quite a greenhouse effect, which the actors in wearing wool long coats, suits and ties had to endure. Of course, the compression needed to stream on Vimeo has all but removed the beautiful subtle film grain :-(

                • HONOLUA DAYZ - SURF FILM SHORT by KEITH HOLLIS

HONOLUA DAYZ Shot on Kodak Color Film Transferred and timed to digital by Yale Film Edited in Final Cut Pro and Motion Music by Keith Hollis (Analog mix down at Design Fx Remote ) Synopsis:Two day's in the life of a monster winter swell that hit Honolua Bay on Maui, Hawaii in 2012. My brother Tyler Ladinsky is featured in this film along with local Hawaiian surfers (pro's and amateurs). This film features an original reggae/dub soundtrack. Dedication:This film is dedicated to my brothers childhood best friend, Justin Vajna, who we lost back in 2007. Justin was around our house growing up and really became to feel like a member of our family! Justin was an avid surfer and paddled out with my bro all over, including Honolua Bay. Back in the day we took an awesome trip with Justin to Maui and the Rasta/Island vibe of HONOLUA DAYZ try's to capture the happy and freewheeling spirit of that trip! (We DID have a boom box down on the beach with us everyday... cranking da roots and the old school dance hall reggae! The guy in the straw hat down on Front Street helped out a bit too! ;) Miss you bro! Jah! (Disclaimer: This is my first film and first time using real film stock. I could only afford to shoot a certain amount to film and I learned about film stock the hard way: most of my film was underexposed! I was able to salvage some of the clips(from the beginning of the film) using color balance techniques and gamma correction. What I soon realized, and learned, that exposing film doesn't always mean it will look the way you see it through the viewfinder! I also had a hair in my gate for ALL of my exposed rolls! I knew I should have blown it out a couple of times. Silly! So, what I am saying is....I learned a lot about film and that just changing film, handling film and exposing film is becoming a lost skill set. When I was going to UCLA in 1990's they offered a 16 MM film production class - where over 3 quarters you learn to produce, film and edit a short 16 MM film. I remember seeing the film stock at the ASUCLA bookstore! I didn't have time to take the class but always wanted to. Doing this film I learned a lot of things NOT to do when shooting with real film and learned a lot from Final Cut, Motion and Compressor. I doubt the UCLA bookstore still sells film stock and the class is probably now offered with a RED CAMERA as a digital film production class. There is just something special about real film - it's captures the excitement of the moment in a way that, well, only film can. I hope to be able to afford to do my next film in 16 MM and hopefully it will look better. The vibe of Honolua Dayz is still there tho! ...I guess that's all that matters. Thanks, Keith) More info check out: http://www.keithhollis.com

welcome to tomorrow's world where every horrific nightmare has come true! Civilization lost, mankind banished and the dead roam the earth preying on the few remaining survivors for their flesh! In this world only the toughest survive and among the toughest is Edwige, former international troublefixer for hire. A headhunter. A killer. now on her last mission to capture her former master, mentor and lover, Franco. But it's no love left between them, not only did Franco betray her in the old world. He was also involved in the business with Boris, that may have triggered the disasterous outcome for mankind. Boris, an excentric russian billionair, with his own private army, is now the only force left. But a secret expedition to a south american jungle brought catastrophic results. Boris returned a disfigured, bitter mummy, and Franco vanished. Now Boris wants Franco at all costs. Edwige captured Franco, but there are others out to get him - like George and JOe. A couple of seeds so rotten the decline of society actually worked in their favour. With her on the run is the girl. A mute, young, fragile being in need of protection. Out of fuel they're forced to journey on foot, thru a lost civilization - our civilization. Facing unbelieveable odds they enter the kingdom of the dead. The last speck of hope rest on their shoulders, as they battle it out with a force of nature, the strenght of a hurricane: A tidalwave of ravenous dead flesh! And soon they will run out of bullets... Starring David Allen and Silje Reinåmo (The Patriot Act) as the mentor and the protege. ABSOLUTE XOMBIES 3D was written and directed by JOhnny Markussen with a devil-may-care attitude, discarding all advice concerning shoestring budgets. With an over-the-top, no-holdes-barred story, but still maintaining some heart and intelligence. And going for more of a Tex Avery look than a gory splatter attitude towards the horrors. Mixing the classic style of Louis Fuller, Sam Raimi and George Romero with the satirical flavour of Matt Stone/Trey Parker. Chock-full of details, homages and set pieces, all to the tune of a vintage Roger Corman size budget (no inflation adjustment). In production for more than 7 years, tallying more than 25.000 workhours, ABX3D was first screened at Marche du Film Cannes 2011 (as XOMBIES 3D). Shot in Super 16 on 20 rolls (of mostly vintage) Kodak stock. Originally "flat" the scenes have been forged by "hand" into 3D dimensions.
