The Biennial Sculpture Invitational supports the Krasl Art Center’s focus on contemporary sculpture in its permanent collection. The latter began in 1983 when Olga Krasl commissioned Michigan artist Kirk Newman’s Gulwave for placement on art center grounds. Today, two-thirds of the KAC’s permanent collection sculptures are on view outdoors, located on art center grounds and throughout the region, from New Buffalo to South Haven, Michigan. The placements of the artworks in the Biennial Sculpture Invitational and the KAC collection are intentionally chosen to complement and diversify existing public art and monuments throughout the community. Highly visible sculpture in public places increases civic pride and bear witness to a culturally rich environment.+ More details
