Introducing the Spring/Summer 2015 Kristian Aadnevik collection. “In beauty of face no maiden ever equaled her. It was the radiance of an opium-dream - an airy and spirit-lifting vision more wildly divine than the fantasies which hovered about the slumbering souls of the daughters of Delos.” Edgar Allan Poe This season’s inspiration originates from Ancient Greek Mythology and the sacred birthplace of Apollo; Delos, which is encompassed around the Aegean Island of Mykonos. The infamous story of Apollo, Greek God of light, slaying a Python with his golden arrows, plays on the Aadnevik’s ongoing themes of light and dark. Apollo represents everything that is light through the use of gold gleaming leather that is set against luxurious snakeskin symbolising the sinister and evil Python. The collection consists of coral pink, deep oceanic blues and pale nude colours signifying the crystal clear Aegean Sea lapping against the windy sands of Mykonos. The neon yellow of the chthonic Python sits against the contrasting traditional lace representing ancient Grecian artworks from centuries ago, the white against black symbolising Apollo’s power to subdue evil. The Ancient Greek Griffin plays a huge part of this collection as the majestic guardian of the divine. The body of the lion and the head and wings of an eagle is set into sculptured gold metal pieces adding striking Olympian power to the celestial collection. Introducing the Autumn / Winter 2015 Kristian Aadnevik collection A stroll through the Apsley House of Hyde Park Corner was where this season’s inspiration stemmed from, focusing on the historical background and triumph of political figure and leading military war hero the Duke of Wellington. His liberation of Europe from Napoleon was both heroic and selfless, and the infamous battleground and the uniforms of the men and their steeds play upon Aadnevik’s consistent theme of light versus dark and highlight the triumph of the Waterloo victory in 1815. “ The Apsley House took us back to a time of noble British achievements and we were captivated by the stories behind The Duke of Wellington’s heroic life. From studying the collection of paintings on the walls to the details of the intricate gilded interior - this world inspired us to create a collection based on the victorious majestic regimentals against the sacred tones of romanticism, nature and loss. “ Gold, reds, dust pinks, greens and royal blue hues signify the intricate detailing of the uniforms. From the red waist jackets and structured stovepipe shakos, to the majestic saddles of the horses; all of the aspects of the appearance of his army have been composed into the selection of delicate silks, regal rope and tassel detailing, rich velvets and furs, to create a collection of the story of the heroes riding into battle. The divine and Victorian femininity is showcased in the designs with the use of soft dusty pinks, delicate green and flower embroidery, while the gold hand ornamentation and lace is designed from the adorned interior of the Apsley House. Again, contrasting from the darker hues, the light, soft feminine laces and silk chiffon contribute to the epic history of The Duke and his time. KRISTIAN AADNEVIK - AUTUMN / WINTER 2014 Introducing the Autumn/Winter 2014 Kristian Aadnevik collection. This season is inspired by the intrinsic architecture of Georgia, a Eurasian country with an electric character and a synthesis of culture. This wondrous place beholds a treasure behind many of its unassuming walls. Tbilisi Academy Of Arts is one such striking place, situated within this nation, whose interiors are an artistic repertoire of Baroque, Classical and Persian revival. These lavish designs combine intricate motifs, stained glass and mosaics, and together become a three-dimensional canvas of a restored past. The scene is set with geometric-shaped adornments that lay, like soft lace, upon rustic murals. Old-romantic shades of powder pink, enriched teal and smoky blue-violet, sit against deep reds and bold blacks. Like the motion of a kaleidoscope, hard metals are intertwined into softer images, until they co-exist as one mirrored impression. These motives are embodied through the amalgamation of delicate printed silk chiffon and ornate lace, paired with heavy velvets, strong leathers and metal protruding studs. These textural themes are a reoccurring aesthetic throughout the seasons, alongside the signature leather fastenings, which represent the label’s gothic tendencies. The collection takes you through a door into a magical discovery of abstract colour and shape. The legacy of the past becomes a source of life and inspiration. What we live with today, past generations have left behind, and through this history we are instantaneously taken into their imagination. KRISTIAN AADNEVIK SPRING / SUMMER 2014 SHOW “Look out on a land of mists and mysteries; a land of trailing silver veils through which domes and minarets, mighty towers and ramparts of flushed stone, hot palm groves and Atlas snows, peer and disappear at the will of the Atlantic cloud drifts.” – Edith Wharton, In Morocco Introducing the Kristian Aadnevik’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. This season’s inspiration derives from the ornate, majestic architecture of Morocco and the mysterious landscapes of the surrounding desert. Kristian evokes the diversity of this rich landscape and culture by fusing together detailed exotic, alluring shades and lavish embellishments, with the more ruinous earthen tones. Amidst the sultry sandy hues there is a smattering of dewy greens representing a lush oasis. To depict the wild mountainous habitat, Aadnevik has used luxury skins such as python and lizard, intermixed with a wide spherical detailed lace to adorn the garments, representing the scales of a reptile. The billowing lengths of chiffon and jersey have been conceived to embody the undulations of the swirling sand dunes. This is drastically contrasted with textural layering, created to replicate the dryer, more cracked barren grounds of this striking scenery. In keeping with the label’s themes of light on dark, Kristian has again incorporated an edge to his feminine designs, with the use of oversized studs, exposed zips and copious amounts of leather. Like a mirage in the desert, this collection is timeless. Aadnevik has combined the traditional and the contemporary, like the mythic lands of Morocco, which steal your sense of time and place.
