'Bridesmaids' is directed by Paul Feig and written by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo. I have to say right off the bat...This is one of the funniest films I've seen since 'Hangover'. From the opening scene, you know what kind of movie this is going to be. It's morning. Annie (Kristen Wiig) wakes up in bed next to Jon Hamm. His character doesn't even have a name. He's sleezy...He's rich and he drives a Porsche. Annie runs into the bathroom, puts on lipstick, fluffs her hair and gets back into bed. Jon wakes up, looks at Annie and very sweetly says...'I want you to leave but I don't know how to say it.' Any girl with an ounce of self respect would tell the guy to get f--k, but not Annie. She smiles sweetly and makes herself scarce. To say Annie's self estem isn't very high is an understatement. She's in her late thirties, doesn't have a boyfriend, drives a car that is near death and she is still devasted about losing her cake business. Well she did open it during the height of the recession. The only bright spot in her life is her lifelong best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) and now she is getting married. Of course Annie is her maid of honor and in charge of planning the wedding. Annie couldn't be happier until she meets...HELEN (Rose Byrne) Helen is uber rich and Lillian's new best friend. This relationship is the key to Annie's unraveling. One of the funniest scenes in the film takes place during Lillian's rehearsal dinner. Helen and Annie get into a major pissing contest in front of all the guests...Each one tries to show that they are the better friend to Lillian. Of course we musn't forget the other bridesmaids in the film...All of them wonderfully weird and brilliantly funny... Ellie Kemper (Becca), Melissa McCarthy (Megan) and (Rita)Wendy McLendon-Covey. 'Bridesmaids' is not just a 'chick film' Yes, it has super rauncy bathroom humor that will have you rolling in the aisles, candid talks about sex and the male/female genitala...but in the end, it's a film about friendship...and how you can find it with the most unexpected people. The late Jill Clayburgh plays Annie's mother. One of her best lines is when she tells her daughter 'It's good you hit bottom...Now the only place you can go is up'. I gave 'Bridesmaids' 5 bagels out of 5 and my husband came pretty close in his bagel rating as well. 'Bridesmaid's opens in theaters Friday May 13, 2011...and whatever your gender is...don't miss it..
