Since 2012, despite the civil war, the Kurdish people of western Syria have established their own secular, democratic, libertarian socialist region, known as Rojava. From September 2014 to January 2015, the people of one city - Kobanê - successfully fought off a bloody and bitter siege from ISIS militants which lasted over 130 days. They are now liberating further ground from ISIS. Many revolutionary songs have come out of this period. This is a short film about one of them - 'Marşa Rojava' - performed by some of the Kurdish community of London and friends, at a fundraising event for Kobanê. You can help rebuild Kobanê by donating to the Kurdish Red Crescent - Heyva Sor a Kurdistanê: www.heyvasor.org

2015 marks the centenary of the Armenian genocide. Many Armenians survived the tragedy after being hidden by Kurdish and Turkish families. Their descendants mostly only learn about their background decades later. For many it is the beginning of a search for their own identity. Andy Spyra was born in Hagen in 1984. He studied photojournalism and documentary photography at Hanover High School and is winner of numerous awards, including the Getty Images Grant for Editorial Photography 2009 and the Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award 2010 for his work on the Kashmir conflict.
