Typical New Orleans bicycle commute with lots of lane splitting, red light running action. Also a couple of tight traffic squeezes should get your attention!

This is the 42nd upload of my daily bicycle commute (mostly). By now you should be noticing a pattern (or falling asleep) to my evening ride. In this vid I added subtitles representing what I would be thinking (if there was time to think) as I pedal along avoiding nincompoop after nincompoop. Just like snowflakes, every ride is different. The patterns I use to position myself on the road are similar, but there is always unique action thanks to motorist and pedestrian behavior.

Bob and I travel from Hollywood to Downtown Los Angeles on the 101 East. It's a moving wall of metal, and a whole lot of fun. Still a lot of vibration, need to improve the rig. Filmed with a Canon XHA1. Footage sped up a bit.

Man, the NOPD really broke up the rhythm of my evening commute today. I consider it bad form to split lanes past a patrol car and blow through a red light right in front a them at the same time, so my ride was pretty herky-jerky. The police here in NOLA have better things to do than chase cyclists around town fortunately. Canal Street is loaded with police due to all of the tourist foot traffic crossing from hotels to the French Quarter. Crimes in this area tend to make national news and put a dink in our tourist industry, so there is a cop at every corner most evenings. But other than this area and near the court house, I almost never see patrol cars in daylight back in the hood, unless they are drawing a chalk line around a shot-up body.

Met some friends after work at Cafe Rani on Magazine Street. Cycling two or three miles at the peak of rush hour is a piece of cake when your vehicle is the right shape! It seemed a pretty light day for traffic and most of it was moving - which makes for better video action. Had a few tight squeezes but no close calls. Pretty standard commute to uptown from the French Quarter. Score: I passed 110 cars/buses/garbage trucks. 1 car overtook me.

This video is a highlight reel of published and non-published 2008 footage all rolled into one 15 minute clip - about the length of my attention span - for everyone to enjoy. If you don't have time to look at all of my other vids, this is the one must-see version. In April of 2008 I acquired a helmet mounted camcorder from VholdR that I sometimes mount on my handlebars too. In 8 months I published 30 "quickie" videos of my daily bicycle commute to work and back home. Those quickie videos can go from camera to Internet in about 3 hours. I also have tons of unpublished footage, some of which were put to use in this work as well. Camera: VholdR Wearable Camcorder Editing: Windows Movie Maker 6.0 Platform: Vista Home Basic Edited Speed: 1.5x to 3x normal speed Editing Time: About 20 hours

Critical Mass is a cycling event typically held on the last Friday of every month in over 300 cities around the world. The ride was originally founded in 1992 in San Francisco. Critical Mass rides vary greatly in many respects, including frequency and number of participants. In what have been the largest events using the name Critical Mass, cyclists in Budapest, Hungary hold only two rides each year on April 22 (Earth Day) and September 22 (International Car Free Day). The "Budapest style" attracts tens of thousands of riders. The April 20, 2008 Budapest ride participation was estimated at 80,000 riders. In Vienna, close to Budapest, a Critical Mass Ride has been held every month since 2006 and attracts up to 1,000 or more riders. The ridership in the Critical Mass fluctuated between 150-250 people.
