Timelapse of the observatories atop Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The summit is at an altitude of nearly 14,000 ft and is the premiere site for astronomy in the Northern Hemisphere. As an astronomy graduate student at the University of Hawaii, I've enjoyed excellent access to the facility. Some of my favorite still images of Mauna Kea can be found at www.sgphotos.com/photostories/maunakea. More information (i.e. "What's up with the lasers?" "What gear did you use?") can be viewed at http://sgphotos.com/portfolio/timelapse/makingmaunakeaheavens/. More of my timelapse work can be found here and at www.sgphotos.com/portfolio/timelapse. Please notify me prior to featuring my work. Music: "All is Violent, All is Bright" by God is an Astronaut. Standard disclaimer: Mauna Kea contains delicate ecosystems and is sacred to the Hawaiian people. If you go there, please be sensitive to the cultural role of the mountain and obey the rules contained at http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/info/vis/visiting-mauna-kea. Permits are required for large groups or commercial filming, and more information can be found at the link. And above all, please be safe—accidents are much more likely when you combine high altitude, sleep deprivation, cold, snow/ice, and darkness!

On September 5th, 2013, LEGS and Lexus brought the worlds of fashion, art and technology to a colliding halt at MADE Fashion Week. Holographic imagery, avant-garde dance and 3D projection mapping fuse and erupt in a stunning and magnetic immersive experience, starring Coco Rocha as the heroine. Directed by Radical Friend and inspired by Giles Deacon’s theatrical collection, the story tracks Rocha as she battles opposing forces on a path to independence from darkness to light, ultimately finding her own liberation. With Andrew Thomas Huang and Radical Friend as creative directors, LEGS pulled together a stunning technical display, blurring the lines of reality and fiction. Featuring choreography by Ryan Heffington and original musical score by HEALTH, this video captures highlights of the 15 minute performance that sent chills down the spines of its star-studded audience, in a fashion show to remember. I've featured a few projects on HacknMod.com before about how to draw with light using your camera's exposure settings, but nothing compares to this. We've teamed up with a group called Light Art Performance Photography who uses lasers, LEDs, illuminated body suits, sparklers and just about anything else which emits light to construct these incredible works of art.
