Here's installment #2 of a web series inspired by Maria Hinojosa's "Somos" radio program. Here, my cousin Rox explains how family values - being together as often as possible - has shaped who we are and have become as individuals and as members of a collective whole. There are also brief glimpses of the last Posada my family hosted before ending a 40 year tradition back in 2010. A big thank you to Maria Hinojosa for the work she does to elevate Latino life in the U.S. and for the inspiration to create this video web series! Here's the first installment of a web series inspired by Maria Hinojosa's "Somos" radio program. Here, my cousin kicks off the series explaining how ditch digging and the cotton crops of the Rio Grande Valley shaped his own life. A big thank you to Maria Hinojosa for the work she does to elevate Latino life in the U.S. and for the inspiration to create this video web series! The Redondo Pier is home to restaurants, souvenir shops, a fish market and an arcade. But the real action happens along the railings. This audio slideshow features the Morados, who visit the pier every weekend and cast for mackerel. The girls wear colored pajama pants and, with gloves on, take the caught fish off the line and plop them into their bucket. The family, along with hundreds of other people of all ages and ethnicities, spend hours with their lines in the water below, reeling in their catches as the sun sets over the Pacific. Audio and production by Lauren M. Whaley. Photography by blair wells.
