Evolution is dramatic in island chains, since small populations can become isolated and inbred, and variations may flourish. The Galapagos are home to Land and Marine Iguanas, but each kind varies between islands. Although Darwin saw the different kinds, and was somewhat repulsed by the Marine Iguanas, variation of iguanas was not a major source of his inspirations about evolution. However the Flightless Cormorants were, a fine example of what happens when selection for some function, in this case flight, is eliminated. Lacking land predators, the birds have vestigial wings. They're amazing divers though. Here are shown: Land Iguanas, Pale Iguanas, and Marine Iguanas of two types, ones with red coloration on Española Island and larger ones lacking red on Fernandina Island. The video also shows the Galapagos sea lions, a Lava Lizard watching a Pale Iguana, and Sally Lightfoot crabs. The crabs spray out water that has been deoxygenated, something that's shown in a photo here. The filming was done in 2007 and 2013 by Matthew Scott, who also edited. Music is by Pablo Cárcamo.

The Galápagos Islands (official name: Archipiélago de Galápagos ; other Spanish names: Islas Galápagos) are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed on either side of the Equator in the Pacific Ocean, 926 km (500 nmi) west of continental Ecuador, of which they are a part. The Galápagos Islands and its surrounding waters form an Ecuadorian province, a national park, and a biological marine reserve. The principal language on the islands is Spanish. The islands are famed for their vast number of endemic species and were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. His observations and collections contributed to the inception of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection.
