Each fall, Yale Law School hosts a Student Organization and Journals Fair. Student Organizations and Journals set up tables in the Law School courtyard and representatives from each group are available to speak with new students about what their groups do. There are about fifty student organizations and nine student journals at Yale Law School addressing a variety of topics. These groups offer outlets for substantive discussion and experience and also often are a great way for students to make connections with their peers.

A growing body of research shows that people find motivation when they are provided opportunities for autonomy, mastery and purpose in what they do. Research finds that when people are asked to conduct complex problem-solving that requires creativity and innovative thinking, as will be required of lawyers in the 21st century, they are better able to do so when the motivators are intrinsic rather than extrinsic. This video provides an overview of for law school educators interested in adding the three intrinsic motivators – autonomy, mastery and purpose into the way they teach law students. This video is created and produced by Professors Beryl Blaustone (CUNY Law) and Michele Pistone (Villanova Law) as part of LegalED, legaledweb.com, an online repository for resouces for legal education, developed by law professors.

While we welcome that debate, it has also led to some misunderstandings about the proposal itself, the criteria for admission to our university and the nature of our campus life. As you learn more about our proposed Trinity Western School of Law, we think you will find that it has been carefully considered – and that it offers many benefits to both our Canadian legal system and to our society as a whole.
