This is a video produced by EAA chronicling the preparations and arrival of the only flying Boeing B-29 Superfortress into EAA's AirVenture 2011. Of the nearly 4000 Superfortresses built during the war; only a handful still exist. Today only ONE still flies. The Commemorative Air Force owns and operates "FIFI" the only flying B-29! The CAF B-29/B-24 Squadron tours the nation each year as a flying tribute to the men and women who built serviced and flew the aircraft of WWII. Wherever we stop we invite the public to take a tour of the aircraft, and for those lucky few the opportunity to purchase a Living History Flight Experience aboard "FIFI" or Diamond Lil (one of only two flying B-24 Liberators). The wreck of a B-24 Liberator was found near island of Vis, Croatia. Apparently this is the last Liberator that came out from factory in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Therefore plane was named "Tulsamerican" and all workers had signed on it. More info: http://www.samoloty.ow.pl/str429a.htm

A short video showing the recovery of "FIFI" from China Lake Naval Test Center in the early 1970s. The Confederate Air Force (Now Commemorative Air Force) had been on a quest to find a flying example of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, when one was discovered at the China Lake Naval Test Center in the early 1970s. Shady Lady - Start Sequence 'Shady Lady'is the epic story of the B-24 Liberator aircraft called 'Shady Lady' that set off from Darwin on Friday, 13 August 1943 on what was at that time the world's longest ever bombing mission of WWII to the oil refineries at Balikpapan, Borneo. Shortly before running out of fuel, 'Shady Lady' was crash landed on a remote salt pan in Northern Western Australia after flying for 16 hours and 35 minutes. With help from the Aboriginal Community, 'Shady Lady'amazingly flew again. The crew received a 'Presidential Citation' for their outstanding bravery and courage. 'Shady Lady' was part of the 380th Bombardment Group which flew B-24 bombers in the South West and Western Pacific areas in WWII. Known as the FLYING CIRCUS and as the KING OF THE HEAVIES, the 380th went overseas in April 1943 and was placed under the control of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and assigned to the Australian North West Area Command operating out of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.
