Photographer Maurice Scheltens (1972) and visual artist Liesbeth Abbenes (1970) create meticulously composed still life photographs. Essential to their work is the creative process that takes place in the studio. With an endless amount of patience and attention to fine detail and craftsmanship, the artists create settings in which they continuously rearrange and reassemble objects in order to find the perfect image. These objects may include anything from pieces of furniture, clothing or make-up boxes, to fabrics and perfume bottles. Their work is often concerned with the transformation of three dimensional structures into two dimensional (flat) patterns, along with a thorough examination of photography's potential to create illusions. This short film was created as part of the 2011 exhibition Unfolded at Museum Jan Cunen, and features a complete exhibition walkthrough as well as an insight into the artists' working methods and thought process.
