Lifeboat stations receive a lifeboat annually for the crew to practice capsize drills in order to familiarise themselves with the process and attain the required standards to meet with the stringent training programme operated by the RNLI for all operational personnel. Generally, the practice lifeboat is a stripped down version of the original D class lifeboat that has been placed in the reserve fleet without the electronics and other equipment that could become damaged during capsize drills. However, this current capsize boat is the first IB1 inshore lifeboat to be used as a practice boat at Dunbar and will provide the volunteer crew members with a more realistic experience which in turn will raise the crew competency.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea - and Sept 2014 marked the 20th anniversary of a Lifeboat station in the port town of Larne, Northern Ireland. Filmed in rough conditions during a training exercise, we meet the crew who voluntarily give up their time and experience what it's like to be onboard during a call out. Filmed using a Canon XF305, Canon 600D and 2 GoPros. Edited in Avid.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the RNLI lifeboat station in Larne, I helped a colleague to make a short film about the station and its volunteers. The video follows a training exercise being carried out on choppy waters and gives an insight into the conditions experienced by the volunteers when they are called out to sea.
