Every artists develops a language of their own: a set of gestures, symbols or marks that they always come back to and use to create art. I wanted to explore my own use of these elements, by breaking my characters into parts, and reassembling them to create brand new ones. This is Character Building.

11 pages of linocut artwork telling the story of the Moolyawongk, a kyungo-like creature known to lurk around rivers and billabongs. The Walkindi-Woni art group from the Riverland, South Australia, have created the story about Poilyongko Pipireyu, a young Aboriginal boy who was taken by the Moolyawongk when he walked alone by the river's edge. The story of the Moolyawongk has been used by the River People for generations as a precautionary tale, educating youngsters on the dangers of the river. To this day, young Indigenous people up and down the Murray River system are taught to respect and fear the river - to respect and fear the Moolyawongk.

A little video showing the process from cutting a piece of lino to the final print. I'm no filmmaker and I think that is very clear but I just wanted to show an idea of the time, work and effort that goes into each one of my perfectly imperfect little prints. Please excuse the terrible lighting, out of focusness and my tumble dryer in the background aha
