This song was written by The Bookshop Band, inspired by the book Embassytown, by China Miéville (Pan Macmillan) and performed minutes after they wrote it for when China came into the shop on the 18th May 2011 to present the book. The book is a dark sci-fi distopia, recreating a quasi Eden scenario on a distant world in the future, where the native inhabitants, who host the small human population there, cannot lie, yet they are intoxicated by them when they do. There is one girl who forms part of their language by acting out a simile - and who eventually corrupts them. But by doing so opens up their consciousness to fully experience the world around them. There’s a sea between words You immerse and focus Leave your mouth wide open Breathe while you are spoken For you are now a word I’ll understand Call you out and there’s meaning to the sound Walls are high but my voices bring them down Thought that I was a keeper of this town (I) learn you have two meanings (We) fall when you deceive us Enthralled, but you should leave us (Don’t) leave this world in silence For you are now a word we’ll understand Call you out and there’s meanings to the sound Walls are high but our voices bring them down Thought that we were the keepers of this town For you are now a word I’ll understand For you are now a word I’ll understand For you are now a word I’ll understand For you are now a word I’ll understand For recordings - www.thebookshopband.bandcamp.com Join us on twitter.com/thebookshopband Thanks to Owen Benson for filming www.owenbensonvisuals.com Or visit Mr B's to buy the book: www.mrbsemporium.com
