1. Montclair Farmers Market

    from vidoovy Added 69 0 0

The Montclair Farmers’ Market is in its 21st season at the Walnut Train Station parking every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and they asked Vidoovy to add them to the Vidoovy Community Video Map. The market runs all summer and through the fall until Thanksgiving. All five of their farmers – Tree-Licious Orchards, Sunden Farms, Vacchiano’s, Matarazzo’s, and Farmer John (the organic grower) – return this season with their fresh produce, often picked within 24 hours. The market also boasts over a dozen delicious food artisans, such as a local Bread Company, a cheese maker, a seafood fishmonger, a beekeeper with honey (and wax candles), a specialty condiments purveyor, a pesto maker, and a pickler. • Food Forward TV Series Trailer

      from Thomas Gorman Added

As field producer for Food Forward TV, I researched and developed characters and stories for the 13x30 character-driven PBS series. I handled all manner of pre-production, field production and post-production logistics for shoots across the United States. Food Forward TV is a PBS series showcasing innovators and pioneers -- food rebels -- transforming the way we grow and eat our food. We meet farmers, chefs, teachers, scientists, fishermen and ranchers in more than 50 cities and towns across the country who are all providing new solutions to help combat America's growing food challenges. Many of their innovative techniques emulate a return to more traditional—and sustainable—methods of farming, fishing, and ranching. Leonie Smith Community as Family Leonie Smith is a single mother with an autistic child. For her first five years her daughter was unable to speak, never said ‘I love you’, and was frustrated at not being able to communicate. Brighid also had many physically aggressive tantrums. She’s improved with age so that now it’s hard to notice any autistic behavior. Leonie compliments Brighid on her talents being numbers and drawing and explains that her mind processes differently to “normal” people. Leonie has the ability to organize, plan and put into action huge community events. She has raised $350,000 in the last three years for the local community by organizing large festivals with a team of other volunteers. She does most of her planning and organizing in the middle of the night when she has insomnia. She has a background in graphic design which comes in handy for posters etc. and a knack at gaining sponsorship for the events which have proven very successful since she took the reigns. She made a $20,000 profit in one year on one event. This meant it could take place the following year and continue to support local charities. Leonie comments that her community, those on the committees and her friends, have become her surrogate family, having no immediate family other than her brother. Planning these festivals helps tourism in the town and provides invaluable money for local charities such as the cancer support centre so that sick people can be treated locally. She hopes that her child and the next generation will still be able to enjoy these events that she loved as a child growing up in the area. Leonie said, “It doesn’t matter who gets the recognition for the job done, just that it gets done.” Consequently she is often in the background working ten hour days, doing just that.
