A short video documenting a hike in the beautiful and unique Loess Hills in western Iowa. These hills are made up of a silt only found here in Iowa in their natural state, however China has the same type of silt formed by glaciers during the Ice age and blowing sand over time but the ones in China have been changed by man. You will see the landscape, the foliage, a blend of insects, flowers, mushrooms, and birds that are abundant in the area. Enjoy the arrangement of classical music and the beauty that is the Loess Hills.

Filmed in Pottawatomie County, Iowa: just west of Hitchcock Nature Center; just east of Omaha, NE. The hills you see are loess: glacial sediment blown by the wind. Loess hills as large and as extensive as these exist only in China and western Iowa. The loess hills of Iowa are a national treasure and and unique in all the world. I got lucky one day timelapsing a controlled burn and a soybean harvest when a swarm of starlings appeared above me: it lasted for 10, maybe 20 minutes. The opening sequence was shot that first and most serendipitous day. This was shot with the 5Dmk2 and the canon 70-200 IS 2.8.
