The Middle Fork project began in April 2014 in a forest near the middle fork of the Snoqualmie river in the Cascade foothills. The sculpture is currently in progress and on view at MadArt in Seattle, WA. through April 25, 2015. The sculpture will travel to venues around the US and internationally for two years. After being exhibited, the sculpture will be returned to the base of the standing old-growth Hemlock it was cast from to gradually moss over and disintegrate into the ground. Mad Homes Transforms a City Street into a Ground-Breaking Art Installation A 3-week art installation, Mad Homes will convert half a block of Seattle’s North Capitol Hill neighborhood into a novel and dynamic exhibition. Redefining the way art is made and experienced, 11 local artists will create paintings and sculptures out of four adjacent 100-year-old homes. Open from July 16 – August 7, Mad Homes will take place on Bellevue Avenue just off of Roy Street on Capitol Hill. Mad Homes is the latest in a series of projects from MadArt, a Seattle-based organization dedicated to fostering community engagement in the arts through novel installations. For example, in the summer of 2010, Seattle’s Cal Anderson Park became the site of MadArt in the Park, a 6-week art exhibition which invited six sculptors to create temporary outdoor installations, giving the public a rare glimpse into the creative process. As Mad Homes and MadArt in the Park illustrate, the organization is on a mission to engage and educate through one-of-a-kind art experiences. www.madartseattle.com Video produced by Rodrigo Valenzuela www.weareshouting.com

www.madartseattle.com presents: "Chrysalis (Contents May Shift In Transit)" addresses the themes of commerce, commodity and consumption with the conversion of the doomed house at 723 Bellevue Ave East into a product, a package ready for shipment. On another level, the piece is designed to represent a cocoon, a place of warmth and protection, a place of transformation, development, and rebirth. www.troygua.com video production www.rodrigovalenzuela.com www.weareshouting.com

This project speaks to the ideas of home, neighbors and community. We generally don’t get to pick whom we have for neighbors in the same way we don’t get to pick our families yet we are bound to these people. We are reminded that there is much more that ties us together than proximity. The act of binding has both positive and negative connotations. A wound needs to be bound in order to heal; a machine breaks due to binding parts. A bond can intimate the love between parents and their children or a difficult situation. It is cohesion and unity at the same time it is tight and restrictive. The project is a physical manifestation of this dualism. www.suttonberesculler.com video by Rodrigo Valenzuela www.rodrigovalenzuela.com www.weareshouting.com

http://www.madartseattle.com/mad-homes/artists/amanda-manitach "a strange daydream, deprived of all thickness" lifts a phrase found in Gaston Bachelard's Poetics of Space in which Bachelard considers the quality of different spaces (rooms) in a house to furnish an archive for memory and safe haven for dreams. The installation incorporates use of multiple automated slide projectors: providing a means of tampering with rhythmic time, duration, and induced states of reverie. Texts from various sources will be broken down and projected word by word, in effect wallpapering the room with an ever-dissolving collage of phrases formed independently of the original content being distributed per individual projector; the effect of this flickering word-carousel is reminiscent of Raymond Queneau's Cent Mille Milliards de Poèmes, an Oulipian exercise modeled after children's picture books in which images are divided into horizontal strips that can be combined and re-combined in almost endless iterations.
