I would like to tell you a story of two characters living in solitude, never coming in contact with each other until the lines of separation get blurred. This is a tale of finding magic in the seemingly mundane and realizing that sometimes you don't see a void in your life until it's filled. from Caraminhola Filmes / Added

The Language of Things, an award-winning short film for children supported by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture and TV Brasil, inspired by the work of the poet Manoel de Barros. In a farm lives the boy Lucas and his grandfather. They don´t know how to read, but the grandfather knows the river´s and the plants’ language. Lucas is tiered of the routine of going fishing and listening to stories invented by his grandfather, which he claims to have fished out of the river, word by word. One day Lucas´ mother comes and takes him to live in the city. Even though the grandfather is contradicted, he encourages Lucas to go and learn the people´s language. At school the new language doesn't enter his head. And he starts inventing a language of his own. Everyone thinks he has a screw loose. Then his mother receives notice of his grandfather´s death. Back at the farm, Lucas runs in the hope of finding his grandfather. Desolated Lucas sits at the river bank and without realizing dozens of words are brought by the river´s current.

‘He Took His Skin Off For Me’ is an adaptation of the original short story by award-winning writer Maria Hummer. Its vision of the skinless man as a twisted modern-day fairytale is powerful, evocative and beautiful. Think Margaret Atwood meets David Cronenberg. Finalist for the driftless prize in Fiction.
