ArcheToys is a collection of metal model cars with recognizable forms and colors - archetypical vehicles. Though typified as toys, they are meant to express more than just being children’s toys. They are meant to be played with, but not only by children. What started as a desire to create my own model car became a serious design project. I discovered that this process was about much more than just designing. Different aspects came to light, such as emotion, recognition, sentimental feelings for the past and graphic design, showing how essential and important form and colour really are. Looking at the timelessness of the designs, you could argue that no period or decade that can be put on these designs, though there is an underlying sentiment towards past times.

Dish Doctor Design Marc Newson, 1998 Injection-moulded polyethylene Made in Italy by Magis http://hivemodern.com/pages/product113/dish-doctor-marc-newson-magis From the genius of Marc Newson comes the dish doctor... a dish drainer for the stalwart aesthete. Durable, chic and functional, a perfect combo. To quote Marc: "I controlled every aspect of this project, even the packaging, and it was an instant hit. We used rapid prototyping technology to go virtually straight from the screen to tooling without any modifications. It is made from the same polypropylene as ordinary dishracks, but the Magis production standards are so high that the finish is absolutely beautiful." 15.3" w | 18" L | 4" h Marc Andrew Newson CBE (b. 1963) of Sydney, Australia (now based in London), is a successful industrial designer who works in aircraft design, product design, furniture design, jewelry, and clothing. He incorporates a design style known as biomorphism, which uses smooth flowing lines, translucency, transparency, and tends to have an absence of sharp edges. In 1984, Newson graduated from the Sydney College of the Arts in jewelry and sculpture. In 1986 he was awarded a grant from the Australian Crafts Council and staged a first exhibition featuring the Lockheed Lounge. The following year he moved to Tokyo, where he lived and worked until he moved to Paris in 1991 and set up a studio. The Magis company was founded in 1976 and had their first success in 1984 with “Step,” a ladder that was influential and crossed over into the designer furniture market from the hardware stores. They had two more huge successes in 1994 with Jasper Morrison’s “Bottle” and the “Lyra” stool from the Italia Group, their bestseller. Two years later, the “Bombo” stool designed by Stefano Giovannoni would gain enormous success and cultivate an imitable style. Once the company gained momentum, they never slowed and would go on to produce Jasper Morrison’s technologically advanced “Air-Chair,” Michael Young’s “Dog House,” Konstantin Grcic’s “Chair One,” the “Me Too” line of children’s objects and furniture, and the “Striped” family from the Bouroullec brothers.

Concept presentation in stop motion. Elements in expanded polypropylene are stacked and adjoined to compose a shelving system, creating a series of superimposed arches. Thanks to its modularity this system can expand endlessly both upwards and sideward.EUR reminds expressly of the famous “Square Colosseum”, that is the Civilization Building in theEUR quarter in Rome, a building with clear Rationalistic features, which was developped as oneof the projects for the 1942 Universal Exposition in Rome, which on the other hand was neverheld because of the Second World War.
