    • ArduSat's Arrival at the ISS Onboard the HTV4 Japanese Module

Footage from the International Space Station as the Japanese HTV4 cargo vessel, which among other things delivered ArduSat1 and ArduSatX for later deployment via the ISS. Cube Sats are becoming more and more popular and cheaper alternatives to launcing a heavy payload via rocket into orbit. There are different size / form factors, while ArduSat is in 1U form factor. The entire payload is only 10cm cubed. Upon arrival at the ISS, they are prepared for deployment, which basically means they are released from the station into low Earth orbit. What makes ArduSat special is that it is an Arduino-based payload accessible to anyone. Onboard is the equivalent of 16 Arduino UNO modules on 1 board layer, with an Atmel "supervisor" MPU to watch over each node. An impressive array of instrumentation is available to each node, allowing experiments to be written in Arduino development environments. A user writes their experiment code, it gets uploaded to ArduSat, and at the end of the experiment the data is sent back to Earth and the end user. Our particular interest is studying the magnetosphere using the onboard digital 3 axis magnetometer, and later accessing the satellite's spectrometer to study the composition of the solar wind. Astrologer Alison Chester-Lambert from England just released a new book called "The Future in the Stars" (Findhorn Press 2010) and was the guest on the livestream channel "2012 and beyond" on July 16th 2010. She revealed some amazing new facts on 2012, the activity of the sun, the magnetosphere around the earth and the astrological readings of the next few years. Especially important is her outlook for 2012 where she sees many important activities in June rather than in December! As usual with these livestream recordings, the technical quality is not the best, but the informations you get are worthwhile watching! Length: 32:06 min. www.midlandsschoolofastrology.co.uk/ www.findhornpress.com www.livesream.com/2012truth

The idea behind this is the nucleus of implementing something similar to Magnetosphere, in Quartz Composer, instead of Processing. At the same time, I don't have the goal of slavish emulation, just something on par with Magnetosphere, and in a similar artistic style. So, this is a "macro" mini program of the sphere and swarming l-system, and some organic movement of the two objects.

It's no secret that I love Disney's EPCOT Center. I also love the iTunes visualizer Magnetosphere. Put them together and you have a futuristic match made in heaven.

First of a series of creative videos for the European Space Agency, based on ESA's activities: the Swarm mission. Earth's magnetic field is our life saver, protecting us from the energetic solar wind. The Swarm satellites will measure Earth's magnetic field to allow us to understand it for a safer future. Made with Processing. Audio by Deee-Lite (Groove is in the Heart). Added some more controls and reimplemented a rudimentary camera for the 3D space. Decided to go retro for the audio, thanks to input by Ryan Alexander.

Made with Processing. Audio by Britney Spears (I'm a Slave 4 U). Why not, right? Rewrote the Magnetosphere project to be a little more user friendly. It uses color palettes from loaded images. The beat detection is more accurate. And Britney's head shaving was my inspiration. Hang in there Ms. Spears! ;)
