SWARM is a permanent two-story typewriter installation within the Press Hotel located in Portland, Maine. SWARM is designed by artist Erin Hutton in collaboration with Artists at Work at Maine College of Art. SWARM features sixty two vintage typewriters acquired from Tom Furrier of Cambridge Typewriters in Arlington, MA. Spanning the era of the late 1800’s to 1960’s and are mounted in a circular swarm pattern. Condensed and dark machines toward the center, and lighter in color as they appear to move and spread across the wall. The swarm protrudes out into the space as it grows out from the swarm. Steel and wood mounts angle the typewriters out toward the viewer. You can’t contain it, classify it or label it - and perhaps that’s why its our broadest major. New Media attracts an eclectic group of artists whose work can’t be constrained by a single category. Maybe your art involves video installations or video gaming. Maybe it’s about computer animation or interactive art. Maybe it blurs the lines, combining forms of art that have never before merged together. Stop-motion animation, animatronics and acoustic experimentation all find a home here. The defining element that links all New Media majors together is the love of technology and discovery.

Segmented from a longer documentary, Secure at MECA explores the topic of security. As humans living in this day and age, we employ security to keep us safe in our day to day lives. The documentary explores what happens when these tools such as security cameras stop security our privacy and begin invading it. By using the Maine College of Art's security tapes, Secure at MECA is a social exploration of people's behavior when they are unaware they are being watched.

Members of both the junior and senior classes of MECA's Graphic Design major spent the weekend together at the Stephen Pace House; a residency for artists bequeathed to Maine College of Art by American Artist Stephen Pace in 2007. Here, the class hiked the woods behind the house, explored the town, and most importantly, made work inspired by the house's scenic location on the rocky Maine coast. I spent the weekend documenting the entire experience on film, and I've compiled it here to showcase the three amazing days we all spent in Stonington.
