In 2008 I was commissioned by the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness to produce a film to celebrate the life of Gunnie Moberg. The film is based on four elements: photographic journals that Gunnie kept over the years, an interview that Gunnie gave to David Hartley in 2006, interviews I made with some of Gunnie's close Orkney friends, and special times I spent with Tam at The Don, their home. Gunnie moved to Orkney in 1976 with her husband Tam (Stromness Books and Prints), their four children, a dog and a cat. The film is a portrait of a revered photographer, but tells the story of a much loved and much missed friend of Orkney. I never met Gunnie, and perhaps that enabled me to make this film. In a way I feel I might know her a bit now through meeting those who enjoyed her company. As a good host she had a knack for bringing people together, and it seems she still does.
