I produced and directed this music video for openly gay, independent music artist, Anthony Dixon. The concepts were discussed, and shooting took place -- mostly in my living room, in front of my green screen. Then, throughout an unusually long post-production, the video began to morph into something more unusual - a riff on honesty, on the creative struggle itself. The final product is a short film, a musical, and a meditation on how love and desire, fantasy and imagination shape the artistic process.

For those who don't know, the legality of same-sex marriage is being put to a public referendum this November in the state of Maryland. Obviously, I hope that everyone here who sees it will turn out to help retain the rights and benefits of all married Marylanders. Also, this project was 100% volunteer. The only dime spent on its production went to rent gear.

On this special edition of Critical Thinking, we’re kicking into full Election 2012 mode. I’ll be discussing one of our most basic rights as Americans-- Voting. It’s a seemingly simple act that most Americans either take for grated or are doubtful of its actual effect on our everyday lives. One vote being cast in a sea of millions may seem insignificant, but when we look at the big picture, it becomes clear that voting is a vital right and an act that intersects with every aspect of the issues we care about.

While the GOP platform is decidedly anti-gay marriage, not every Republican agrees with the party position on the issue. In this video filmed at the Republican National Convention, Sarah Longwood, a member of the Log Cabin Republicans and Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry, says that the public should be reminded that marriage is a civil institution in that marriage certificates are issued by government. Even if people of faith chose to oppose same-sex marriage because of their religious beliefs, she says, they should recognize that the Constitution, not the Bible, is the country's founding document. "The Constitution should protect us all equally and give us all the same rights," she says. In previous interviews conducted at the RNC, people of faith have held the opposite view about how marriage should be defined.
