Aeon is a non-verbal experimental documentary depicting a day in the life of New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, through a zen influenced perspective. The film is cyclical in structure, manipulating time freely through both slow motion and time lapse photography to uncover new perspectives of an already creative, and abnormally windy, city. I created this film while in my final year of a Visual Communication Design Degree at Massey University in Wellington. The film focus's on locations that became familiar over my four years study. This film was shot over four months in 2004 on a Sony handycam, well before HD and also before digital still photography became normal for time lapse. Therefore, over 50 hours of DV footage was recorded on tape, logged onto a bubble iMac, and compressed into the 13 minutes of Aeon. The soundtrack is by Wellington performance group 'Strike' Awards for Aeon: Best Short Documentary DocNZ Film Festival 2005 Best Student Film American Conservation Film Festival 2007 More information at www.RichardSidey.com

Shot and edited by Greg Jennings. Music "On Top" by Flume This video documents one half (back stage) of a fashion show performed live at Massey University's (Wellington, NZ) Blow Festival 2012. Showcasing the graduate collections of 13 fashion students, Front Back combines physical garments with virtual reality. The unique format of this show highlights tensions between fashion in its traditional runway form, as a '3D object', and fashion as the '2D imagery' that it has increasingly become in the internet age. This video show the action that was experienced directly by the live audience. Audience members were able to watch this standing right alongside, or from an upper viewing platform. 'Front' consists of the virtual pre-recorded show that was projected in cinematic scale onto an adjacent wall (see video FRONT of Front Back, a graduate fashion show). This show had the illusion of occuring in 'real-time', as models synchronized their exit through a false door, with the opening of the door that appeared on screen. Thus audience members viewed both 'front of stage' and 'back stage' simultaneously. This show was initiated, and carried out by a collaborative effort of all the designers in the show. Special thanks to Marlon Beyer-Rieger and Ahmad Habash whom without this venture would have been impossible. Thank you to all those who volunteered their time to make Front Back happen, please see our site for a full list of credits.
