1. Geodesic Ellipsoid

This was written in C++ using OpenGL and uses Loop subdivision of the icosahedron to generate an approximation to the sphere. The sphere is then distorted into an ellipsoid by finding what the phi and rho angles of each vertex would be if the vertex existed in the standard spherical coordinate representation of the sphere (the latitude/longitude representation). Then the appropriate transformation is applied to the vertex based on this information. The "exploded view" of the ellipsoid occurs by scaling the triangles inward and outward along their normal vector, which has already been calculated for lighting purposes. These normal vectors are also used to add depth to the scene, as when the triangles turn into triangular prisms. The black "mesh" background is simply a scaled copy of the triangles used to draw the ellipsoid, except lines are used to connect these vertices instead of making polygons (triangles) out of them. "fractal" was rendered to celebrate http://fractal.co going live this week. Its very basic site at the moment but I have big plans for it :) "fractal" is what it might be like to come out of warp drive just before landing near a scale -2 mandelbox. Music used with permission from http://90watts.com The track is called "Blink of an eye" and its by "satori"

(final video version, unfinal sound) Everything started with the number 8. Then came the Octagon, a clear representation of the number. Then came the formula: 8 X 8 and 8 X 8 X 8; 64 and 512. There is 64 revolving Octagons in the video. The length the video is 512 seconds. Each Octagon is revolving 8 times around itself and each is appearing in the video at 8 seconds intervals, thus each Octagon is slightly faster than the previous one. The mathematical formula enabled mysterious beauty and wonder. There is intricate patterns at the end of the video that the artist hadn't and couldn't foresee. There is indeed beauty in the numbers. Sound part in this video isn't following the formula as planned. The original plan for this work was an installation with projection and 8 channel sound. Each speaker would have placed in the pattern of Octagon around the installation room. In the speakers there would be 8hz sinewave appearing in similar pattern, first the 8hz in the first speaker and after 8 seconds 16hz in the second speaker and so on, until there would be 8 simultaneous sinewaves in each speaker. For this version the audio part is only downmixed version of the the first speaker: 8hz, 72hz, 136hz... at 64 seconds interval. My writing about "Digital Mysticism" deals with the topics of this video: http://incompetentshadow.blogspot.com/2010/05/digital-mysticism.html

                      What are Tags?

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
