An old explorer close to freezing in the Arctic re-lives the events that have brought him there. He recalls his student days at Trinity College in Dublin when he studied under the enigmatic Professor Orit, the professor who was driven to madness by his obsessive pursuit of the unified theory. Convinced that the answer somehow lay in the relationship between the numbers two, three and five, Professor Orit's obsession started the journey which has led his former student to the top of the world. Directed by Darragh O'Connell, featuring the voice talents of John Hurt and Stuart Townsend and produced by Colm Tyrrell, the film was scripted by Darragh O'Connell based on a short story by Austin Kenny. Nominated for an IFTA in 2012, '23 Degrees 5 Minutes' was funded under the Frameworks scheme from the Irish Film Board, RTE and the Arts Council of Ireland. The Path is my Grad Project for the Digital Design program at VFS. It was inspired by a picture took from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope of one of the furthest galaxies ever seen, spotted crossing behind the Pandora's Cluster. The aesthetics came from a personal interest about the dimensions of the universe in terms of distance and time and the mechanics applied to it, making the universe a system of perpetual motion. Here is a link to the Case Study of the video: https://vimeo.com/125003711 If you want to know more about the picture, here is the article from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope website: http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/galaxy/2014/39/full/ Music by: Rameses B Memoirs (Cinematic Version FREE) https://soundcloud.com/ramesesb/rameses-b-memoirs-cinematic

Here's an animation we created in collaboration with The Royal Institution telling the tale of Ancient Greek Mathematics in just two minutes. No mean feat I hear you say? Well listen to this… “2500 years ago a group of revolutionary thinkers changed the way we think about maths. Through the idea of proof, the Ancient Greeks showed that maths isn’t just about performing calculations, but a way of understanding and testing the reality of the world around us”.
