This video is about us l8ies (level 8 ladies) in the Rock the Big Rock Operation intended to blanket the entire Big Island of Hawaii in a layered blue field. The operation did not go off without a hitch, but with the help of many Big Island players we were able to Get the Job Done! Enjoy and share!

An incredible family adventure through the Big Island of Hawaii. We packed more in to this trip than many before and it was all worth it. Couldn't have done it without our friends Iris and Rena, Chris, Barbara and Rob. Big thanks to Jon Swift for letting me use his music for the ending track.

Shown here is timelapse of the observatories atop Mauna Kea, on the Big Island of Hawaii. The summit is at an altitude of nearly 14,000 ft (4200 m) and is the premiere site for astronomy in the Northern Hemisphere. Many of the scenes include the laser adaptive optics systems of the telescopes, which are used to correct for the turbulence of the atmosphere and thereby obtain sharper images. Some of my favorite still images of Mauna Kea can be found at www.sgphotos.com/photostories/maunakea. Please notify me at sean@sgphotos.com prior to featuring this video. It was certainly one of our most crazy adventures that we ever undertook as BIESTMILCH team. Cold and stormy weather was not the only challenge on this ride over the vast pastures of the Dahana Ranch. A thunderstorm with bolts and lightenings right above us gave the situation even more suspense beside the fact that all of us were completely unexperienced when it came to riding a horse. As you can imagine, the bike-riding skills of our top triathletes were not of any help under these conditions. It was a day so cold that the slopes up to the Mauna Kea were covered with snow. On its summit an ice storm let the water freezing in horizontal direction. The lesson we learnt: At this altitude even in Hawaii - famous for its volcanoes, palm trees and beaches - you have to be prepared and carry the appropriate outfit with you.
