With the Red Line renovations complete, it's now the Blue Line's turn for nearly a half billion dollar makeover. In a press conference at the branch's Logan Square station, Mayor Rahm Emanuel stated that ridership on the O'Hare section of the Blue Line has increased 25%--and that it's time to match the growth. This will be the the first overhaul on the Blue Line in 30 years. On the agenda: track work, signal upgrades, improvements to subway tunnels, power upgrades and station remodeling. After everything is said and done, the trip from O'Hare to downtown will be shaved by 10 minutes. Instead of completely shutting down the part of the Blue Line under construction, only sections will be closed at a time during the four year construction period. Any station shutdown will happen overnights and on weekends, with shuttle service in place.
