1. JJ SPACES Façade

    from JPLEASANT / Added

J/J SPACES FAÇADE During the weekend of April 24th 2015 the Slang Gallery on the Spuistraat in Amsterdam would have been the home of Jalal Pleasant (USA) and Jeroen Huisman (NL), both artists and working on the presentation of a collaborative art installation called J/J SPACES. However, the sudden closing of the Slangenpand in which the Slang Gallery was housed has blocked their photograpic video installation art experience. J/J SPACES now appears to be the final exhibition scheduled in the Slang, which unfortunately could not take place. The closing and utter physical destruction of De Slang’s cultural icon did not mean the end of J/J SPACES. As a result of circumstances J/J SPACES will be re-visualized as a pop up public installation on the location of the original Slangenpand and is called J/J SPACES FAÇADE. This street exhibition serves as a celebration and commemoration of ‘’Het Slangepand’’ and the 80’s punk rock inspired DIY (Do it Yourself) culture. The artists take the opportunity to promise a special prize to the Slang for its cultural and social meaning, presented on paper in the J/J SPACES FACADE installation. April 30th 2015 @ 199 Spuistraat, Amsterdam. https://www.facebook.com/JJSPACESevent Photography & Cinematography by: Jeroen Huisman and Jalal Pleasant Editing and Effects by: Jalal Pleasant

Zeno van den Broek is an architect by education but musician and audiovisual artist by profession. his multi-layered work experiments with our perception and experience of space. He does this in a very convincing fashion. The work of Zeno focuses on the synergy between the sonic, the visual and the spatial. To him, music and sound don't just move along a chronological axis, as in the procession of resonant waves with respect to linear time. Music and sound also extend into depths or heights and yet other dimensions or perspectives, also into tactile and mental spaces. The focus of his work is the immersive quality of spatiality in sound and vision. As Machinist Zeno has released several musical works on CD, his latest being the live recording 'Convergence' by Narrominded Recordings.

                      from Dutch Profiles / Added

When the Dutch Unity Price Cooperation HEMA opened its doors in 1926, only one thing mattered: the price. Numerous articles were sold for just a few cents. Since the nineties, quality design became increasingly important too. The company wanted to prove that low prices do not necessarily mean ugly objects. Because of their distinctive designs, the HEMA product range is instantly recognizable. Although HEMA with its no-nonsense design, can be seen as typically Dutch, the company successfully opened stores outside The Netherlands, with branches in Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and France. In 2007 multi-disciplinary design studio Mediamatic used HEMA as inspiration for "EL HEMA", an exhibition in the form of a store in which an Arabic version of the quintessential Dutch HEMA was presented. After initial doubts from HEMA, it embraced the initiative and now the company itself has expanded its product range with Arabic additions. In 1983 HEMA started the HEMA design competition for students. Its success grows with each passing year, and some former award winning designs, like the teakettle Le Lapin or the tast-toe cake tray, are still on sale in their stores. http://www.hema.nl CREDITS Commissioning editor Submarine: Geert van de Wetering Producer: Olivia Sophie van Leeuwen Research Assistant: Liselot Francken Director: Lieza Röben Camera: Marijn Zurburg Sound: Eric Leek Editor: Niels de Roos Colour Correction: Maurik de Ridder Music/Sound Design: Pastelle Music Produced by Submarine, Femke Wolting & Bruno Felix http://www.submarine.nl Commissioned by DutchDFA http://www.dutchdfa.com Like Dutch Profiles on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/dutchprofiles
