We started with the theme of personality in social media at first. After narrowing it down and let it match with FITC we took it into the direction of the creation process. We wanted the viewer to be sucked into the mind of a creative. Show his roller coaster of emotions in his process. We contacted creative writer Tifene Huchet to write the story. She shaped Sam, a man that dreamed about discovering the universe since he was a little boy and is driven by it till this day. After creating a moving storyboard and treatment a lot of people became enthusiastic and joined us to fight the deadline (2 1/2 weeks from there on). With guys working from Sweden & Los Angeles, Skype was a real invention! We divided scenes, so everybody could do his own bit. With rendering and compositing done at our studio we could match the final look and created it as a whole. We aimed on creating a film noir look with its typical lighting and be very subtle with adding color. Studio Takt did an amazing job (again!). He finished it in only 4 days. We're surprised how he achieved to glue all scenes together smoothly. Thank you guys, we think it was a labour of love! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Direction & Design: Floris Vos (Soulbase) & Menno Fokma Creative Writer: Tifene Huchet Music & Sounddesign: Joris Van Grunsven (Studio Takt) Narrator: Terry Mann / Boy: Mick Lefevre Animators/Designers: Fredrik Ekholm / Heerko Groefsema / Kevin Megens / Sander Van Dijk / Ton Mikkers / Wouter Kroese / Marius Denisse / Johannes Matsson Soulbase FB: facebook.com/SoulbaseMotionDesign Menno Fokma Studio FB: facebook.com/mennofokmastudio

"I am searching for abstract ways of expressing reality. Abstract forms that will enlighten my own mystery." The reel is a compilation of past projects; existing of commercial- and independent projects. A lot of work is done at, and in co-operation with, the amazing motion studio Onesize ( www.onesize.nl ). My role varied from (co-)direction to (post) production, but mostly art direction. Nowadays I work as independent director & designer. Studio Takt ( www.studio-takt.com ) did an outstanding job with his futuristic, cutting-edge music and sounddesign! More work on my site: www.mennofokma.nl facebook.com/mennofokmastudio

 - INSIDE OUT A universe inside yourself. In an imaginative and surreal way we see the growth of a personality. The person develops into a self-confident woman with the will and pride to share her true self to the world around her. 1. We see a girl in an empty secluded world. Her dress is basic and she is not remarkable in her surroundings. 2. We see that her abstract inner world bubbles and develops. It starts growing and becomes more dynamic and colourful. 3. The need to show itself on the outside increases. At first she searches for the right way of expressing. It makes her perhaps anxious or insecure. 4. But after a while it comes with more confidence and conviction. The inner world manifests greatly and for the whole world to behold.

www.mennofokmastudio.com www.facebook.com/mennofokmastudio mail@mennofokmastudio.com Playgrounds festival curator Leon van Rooij asked us to create the artwork for this years edition of the festival. While working on the stills we became enthusiastic to see them move. Previous months we also started collecting film equipment and really wanted to experiment with it. With these things in mind we decided do an extra tribute to a festival we love and started working on this live action with cgi driven short. The main Playgrounds image came from illustrations I created earlier, Factory Series: http://mennofokma.nl/site/project.php?id=31 . Every image is a new canvas for visual research. In that way a personal 'Playground' to develop new imagery. The factory is the key object which is present in every visual. In the short we choose to focus on the moment before the experiment also, the part that takes place inside. Kevin Megens (www.artibite.com) wanted to make his hands dirty and started working on the device. Wrapping our small basement in plastic was a nice solution to make it look indefinable and therefore acceptable as inside of the factory. We're very happy we had Studio Takt (www.studio-takt.com) onboard to create an outstanding score again. He really wanted to push his sound design skills further and focused on every single thing. We have to mention that this final piece is finished a bit later then the festival. We already showed the movie over there but grabbed some time in the subsequent weeks to give it an extra touch. www.facebook.com/florisvosstudio / www.facebook.com/mennofokma - When going in a new sort of hypnosis therapy, a girl forces herself to face a dreadful moment from her past. The Rapid Eye is a short experimental art & fashion film which is born from the personal need to experiment with a fragmented way of storytelling, practical effects, aesthetics and evoking emotions on a subconscious level. We started the film by experimenting and recording a lot of different scenes we had in mind. Mostly by just the 2 of us. We paid attention to an intuitive way of working. During the process we connected the dots and developed our script into something bigger. With limited budget we managed to arrange locations and a great crew to shoot the spine of the film. We worked together with the amazing team from Box Of Toys Audio. They recorded vocals with a Scandinavian Yojk singer, Juhán Niila Stålka, and custom samples on the HMS Belfast warship in London. - SCREENED ON: Playgrounds Digital Arts Fest (http://www.playgroundsfestival.nl), November 6,7&8, The Netherlands. - Direction Floris Vos & Menno Fokma Sound Box of Toys Audio (www.boxoftoysaudio.com/) Woman Inez Verhille Camera Michael Brooke Gaffer Bart Van Tunen Fashion Producer Py Tswang Jin Set Producer Marcel v/d Velden Stylist Afagh Morrowatian Fashion Design (in church) Anne De Grijff Make-Up & Hair Ineke Brugman Add.camera & Post Floris Vos & Menno Fokma Catering Marianne Smit & Roos Wijnen - All shot on the Lumix GH3 with a wide range of lenses (mostly Voigtlanders) - More images here: http://www.pinterest.com/mennofokma/the-rapid-eye-short-film/

GRID, Digital Culture and Moving Images Festival Istanbul has become an exciting new destination for art and design of late; this new festival aims to celebrate that development with a fitting new format that helps facilitate networking and collaborations. Hopefully, the festival will earn itself a good place in the usual circuit of European design festivals helping further integrate Istanbul with the European design scene and providing easy access for creative professionals from Balkans, Middle East and beyond. GRID will create an important platform for training and networking providing designers, artists, advertising and cinema professionals of Turkey the chance to get together and benefit from the experiences of the best names over a broad spectrum of design –ranging from web design to typography, illustration to post-production, interaction and experience design to social media campaigns. Meanwhile, it will provide international ad and design community the chance to get to know better the much-coveted Istanbul scene and make valuable contacts there. The festival will have two editions every year –one in spring and the other in fall. The line-up for the second edition will take place in next fall. www.gridthefestival.com Main Titles Credits: Direction & Design: Ouchhh Director: Ferdi Alici 3d Artists and Designers: Bahadir Dagdelen, Caglar Ozen, Ferdi Alici, Emre Onol, Yusuf Emre Kucur, H. MTV International commissioned me to come up with a package design for a new upcoming show, Activate. The show is about young people worldwide facing the difficulty of growing up. How they deal with problems and share knowledge to each other to become stronger. The chosen treatment uses the metaphor of kites to visualize rising out of problems together. The package is created for a pilot and contains a 7 sec. bumper, logo design and lower thirds.
