(Part I of a video collage) Just a little trip one afternoon out to the end of ices on Makholma Bay. Seems there will not be any good ice this year which is really sad; the best time of year is spring out by the sea on the ices. Icy excursions by Jan Eerala, Makholma Finland

Most of the ice field on Makholma Bay flow away with a northerly gale and the open sea come only half a mile from shore. As the ice is less than four inches, even the smallest swell will make it swing. Ice studies for vlog www.rupuranta.net by Jan Eerala, Makholma Finland.

Flocks of gulls appeared as from nowhere along with the dramatic change of the weather. After more than one month of frost, the first day of year was mild and rainy. The ices, that are not good at all from the beginning, will be dangerous weak if this lasts for many days. The first section is shot 29/12 and the rest 1/1. And that's me in the blue scooter;) By Jan Eerala, Makholma Finland.

First time this winter out on the ice field attempting Rayhat Reefs. After one mile from Kuuminainen shore, the ice got weak and the wind increased. Impossible to go further, so I skied along the border of thin ice and back to shore. Windy and chilly as usual, but although, coming out on the ice was as coming home again;) A Holotna excursion by Jan Eerala, Makholma Finland.
