      • Sound Designs 101 in Logic Pro

        from Bill Palmer Added 5 0 0

Creating sounds using synthesis / software instruments in Logic Pro X. Some basic notes and "how to" in terms of taking a pre-existing sound and shaping it into something unique and specific to a genre or purpose. I look at making sounds for the "horror" style genre here although these ideas can be applied to anything if you use your creativity and some basic knowledge of the software.

          from Tempo Primo Added

This is an acoustic version of the same piece "Romance" 7 22 15 , with Ren Art “thrown” in the video.(Rinaldi and Armida, The Mirror in the Bathroom ) The video was an undertaking getting it to a small file size from a zoom camera, The art was easily placed and is somewhat of a older modest artistic version compared to modern erotic appeal. Still, a old fashioned portrayal of the forces of mythical Cupid and Eros .

          • Kick drum triggering step sequencer

This is me playing random stuff to illustrate how to play through a sequence pattern with a kick drum and/or other drum elements using drum triggers. My apologies for the shite sound, did this quick'n'dirty : just one SM57 as a room mic ! Wanted to figure out how the intro of this song was played : https://adebisishank.bandcamp.com/track/international-dreambeat I guess I've managed to find a similar technique ! So basically here's how it works : - Kick drum > drum trigger > trigger to midi converter (in my case I used the SPD-S which has a trigger input) - Send the midi out of the converter to the computer (I connected the midi out of the SPD-S to the midi in of my audio interface) - The SPD-S outputs a midi note on/off message each time I hit the kick drum. - I used the Klee software step sequencer (http://defectiverecords.com/klee/index2.html) to build this very simple pattern. I chose Klee because it has a "manual step" function that can be used to manually move one step forward each time it's triggered. - I wanted to midi map the "manual step" function with my kick drum generated midi note, but unfortunately Klee only uses midi CC signals to map it's functionalities... - Quick'n'dirty workaround : found the "Note2CCGate" Max4live device (http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=1112), which transforms any incoming midi note to a specific midi CC signal. Loaded it in an Ableton Live midi track, routed the midi signal output to the all mighty IAC bus. - Go back in Klee, now you can midi map the "manual step" with the midi CC signal sent via the IAC bus. - Now just hook up with any synth / VST / whatever, I used the MS-20 mini 'cause it looked sexy on my Kick drum :-)

              from Tempo Primo Added

"Romance" S. Rachmanninoff- This is the complete score of a short, yet difficult piece played on a Casio PX 100. It is an improvement from the first session, but needs practice, especially on the pickups of the secondary melodies phrases. It was a challenge that I met , but I am moving to another piece and will improve this piece in session/sections at a time of practicing in the future

                  from Michael Ricca Added 1 0 0

Imagine being able to sculpt 3D sound in a virtual space with any piece of audio, simply by rotating your phone or mounting it to headphones. BLüNAURAL is a networked controller app and binaural audio filter plugin for music content producers. Networked interfaces and controllers have mostly lived in the DIY realm up until recently. BLüNAURAL is a proof of concept for many network integrated apps, plugins, and devices to come. Setup and connecting is easy, allowing artists and musicians to do more of what they do best; create. The App sends gyroscope data via the recently established MIDI Bluetooth LE standard over to a binaural audio filter plugin, hosted in your favorite digital audio workstation on Mac or PC. Your phone can be used as a standalone controller or even mounted to a pair of headphones for more analogous control over head movement and filter control.
