Full article: 'Miniatures and Forced Perspective' - ow.ly/o6Wgg - on my website www.VashiVisuals.com *Updated 8/23 with "grunge texture" added to Humvee and a FilmConvert Pro 2 pass. My yet unfinished feature film, 'The Grind' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1509269/) includes a shot using a 12-inch long Humvee model in this establishing shot. I utilized the widest lens setting at f/11 for deep focus to create a forced perspective once the model was properly positioned. The desert location is the Imperial Sand Dunes in California. This is the same location as used in Return of the Jedi. http://www.desertusa.com/sandhills/du_sh_star.html The Humvee was 2 feet from the camera and the actors 40 feet away.

            • The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore Trailer

              from Moonbot Studios / Added

              239K Plays / / 45 Comments

Inspired, in equal measures, by Hurricane Katrina, Buster Keaton, The Wizard of Oz, and a love for books, “Morris Lessmore” is a story of people who devote their lives to books and books who return the favor. The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore is a poignant, humorous allegory about the curative powers of story. Using a variety of techniques (miniatures, computer animation, 2D animation) award winning author/ illustrator William Joyce and Co-director Brandon Oldenburg present a hybrid style of animation that harkens back to silent films and M-G-M Technicolor musicals. “Morris Lessmore” is old fashioned and cutting edge at the same time.

In a small suburb north of New York City we met Thomas Doyle, a sculptor whose miniature works reveal an interesting view of his characters' lives. Doyle constructs frozen scenes of surreal domesticity and suburban life that provoke nostalgia and warmth—until one takes a closer look. Maybe the idyllic image of the American family is not as cozy as it seems.
