        • Waveform 72

          from Tronsonic Added 157 2 0

This is the sound of a minimoog/mellotron hybrid. All 7 waveforms plus pink and white noise have been sampled to worn tape on 60s valve equipment, then mapped to kontakt and esx24, so that synthesis can be carried out within the computer. Unlike the mellotron, which was only capable of an 8 second sound, these waveforms have been seemlessly looped (like the rare birotron), and been given immediate attack, so dynamic and complex synthesis is made possible. www.tronsonic.com

Follow the life of the Minimoog Synthesizer from its inception through its prolific contributions to poplular music throughout the last 4 decades. In this first installment documenting the journey of the Minimoog synth through the 1970's, we explore the musicians and the people that were instrumental in bringing the instrument to prominence. We also sit with one of Moog Music's earliest engineers, Bill Hemsath, who recalls the process of the Minimoog's birth and sheds some light on what sets the Moog synthesizer apart from other analog synths. This video was produced at the request of Dr. Charles Nichols professor of composition at the University of Montana as support material for Clinker's lecture during the Mountain Computer Music Festival. This "patch" was created to illustrate various modular synth programming techniques on Clinker's ever-evolving hybrid Eurorack format modular synthesizer. There is a brief guest appearance by Clinker's prized 1970's original Minimoog which continues to make him very happy :)

                  • Introducing the Moog Polyphonic Theremin

                    from Moog Music Added 10.5K 55 4

Introduced in 1928, the Theremin is one of the earliest and most widely known electronic instruments. Played artists that manipulate invisible energy fields around antennas which control the pitch and volume of the sound, Theremin music has distinguished hit records from such diverse artists as The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, Clara Rockmore and Linkin Park. Today (April 1st), Moog Music designers carrying on the legacy of visionary founder, Robert Moog have announced the first major technical Theremin design advance in over 40 years. The PolyTheremin™ incorporates bleeding edge IsoDirectional Inductive Oscillator Technology, to isolate space around five individual pitch antennas thus enabling each to be played simultaneously (finger-by-finger) without interference from its companion antennas. This revolutionary concept breaks the long held belief that the Theremin could only be monophonic instrument. The PolyTheremin ships with Dorit Chrysler's instructional video "Playing the PolyTheremin is Even Easier Than Playing a Monophonic Theremin."
