Holmes, and Ishmael Houston-Jones, and features sound design by Neal Medlyn, lighting by Lenore Doxsee, and visuals and writing by Boru O’Brien O’Connell. Slopestyle skiers made a successful debut at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, eliciting gasps with their stunts and jumps. Thousands of miles away in northern parts of the US, a growing number of skiers use city settings to perform and film similar tricks. They scope out urban landscapes to find rails to skid down and walls to slam their skis against. They wait for schools and libraries to close, sometimes emerging only under cover of darkness. They play cat-and-mouse with the police. The BBC spent the day with three skiers and their cameraman in St Paul, Minnesota. Read more about the rise in urban skiing here. Produced by Colm O'Molloy, Aidan Lewis and Bill McKenna Additional footage courtesy of Level 1 Productions

Ranked Choice Voting, got its first serious tests in the Twin Cities on Tuesday. Minneapolis Mayoral candidate Betsy Hodges, who led in first-preference voting by a wide margin seemed to be the odds-on favorite to formally claim victory Wednesday when election officials turn to redistributing second- and third-choice votes from the low-scoring contenders in the cast of 35 candidates. Hodges, a progressive Democrat, earned 36 percent of the voters' first preference picks, 11 points ahead of her closest rival, fellow Dem Mark Andrew, who congratulated Hodges and proclaimed her the winner, causing RCV supporters to warn that the election was not yet over and that, in fact, it was too early to declare a victor.

This is an entry that my partner Craig Hinrich and I produced for a short film competition about the skyway system in Minnesota. The intention of the competition is to feature produce a visual conversation about Skyways and their impact on the urban environment. This is my first film produced with the D7000 and I was impressed solidly throughout the whole footage and how well it did in a variety of lighting conditions. We had three different cameras in operation. I used the D7k for most shots, my partner Craig used a Sony HDR-HC1 camcorder. HDV, and we traded off some shots with the iPhone 4 for quick on location shots. The biggest challenge in post was to marry all the types of footage together to feel as though they were all filmed on the same camera. I think considering the diversity of locations and lighting conditions, we succeeded pretty well. We hope you enjoy the film.
