A trip down memory lane - literally. "Lie Down in Darkness (Photek remix)" by Moby used under licence. The whole video is made out of stills. Whenever something moves, that's animation obtained via different techniques, like camera mapping or frame blending. The basic concept for this video originated when Moby offered his new single "Almost Home" for a Genero submission. It took me some time to come up with an idea, grab a friend, shoot some stills, then get to work on a huge post-production plan. I loathed the result and I'm totally to blame, since the shooting was ill-devised, poorly scheduled, poorly set-up and, in short, poorly shot. So the Genero submission went and that video had been soon forgotten. But I kinda liked the idea of this long - basically endless - open-air corridor, with some sort of dream-like girl in it, maybe a memory, maybe a fake one... so I put together all the clips and summoned all of my psychic stamina (not much) to make something out of some powerful Moby song. This is the result. IMHO it still suffers the aforementioned poor shooting, but I don't despise the overall result. And making it all through the end was really helpfull through the thick and thin with its load of mistakes and unexpected insights.

      • What do you know about Homelessness?

        from Moz / Added

Recently, I have seen a lot of homeless people roaming through the streets during the day and night. I have seen these homeless people sleeping in alleys, on steps of abandoned city buildings in Newcastle CBD. The situation these people face night after night saddens me and has compelled me to speak out about the issue. Firstly, I decided to attend the Vinnie’s CEO Sleep out in Newcastle last month and volunteer my videography skills to assist Vinnies raise more awareness about the community issue. I wanted to do something constructive about homelessness, so I went along to the event and watched and listened to people who were homeless but also to those people who had chosen to sleep out in support of raising awareness and funds to fight homelessness. I met four people who kindly allowed me to ask them questions about why they were compelled to attend the Vinnies CEO Sleep out but more importantly their personal point of view on homelessness: Barbara, Andrew, Niamh and Gordon. They each told a different story about homelessness, expressing much compassion for those in our society who are less fortunate, struggling to make ends meet, and the kids too. A short film written, edited, and directed by Brandon Baity This film was made for the Showdown in Chinatown March 2013 competition which took place March 16th, 2013 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The film came in 3rd place out of 15 entries. It was shot on a Panasonic DVX-100B. The challenge had to include these elements and had to be done within two weeks. Topic: An Action Adventure Line of Dialog: “Bumbai You Learn" Props: An iron & A rubik’s cube Length: 7 Minutes or less Credits: Writer, Director, Editor, and Starring: Brandon Baity Production Assistant: Indira Nauth Music: "Danse Morialta" and "Movement Proposition" - Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) "Shot In The Back of the Head" - Moby (Mobygratis.com) When I got the topic I immediately knew I would have to do something very close to home, pun intended. So the idea was simple and straight forward. Have an "agent" of some sort finding his way into retirement. A working man who is getting ready for his day or travels or whatever, gets a message and then sets off on perhaps what is a daily adventure for him. At the last Showdown in Chinatown event in 2012, I really wanted to participate, but just couldn't since my schedule was not conducive to getting a film done. This time though I made sure to set aside the time for this since I wanted to make a good first showing at SiC. Because of my work schedule I had about 3 days to do everything. I also didn't have a team helping me so that meant I would have to get in front of the camera. Which is a place I prefer to avoid. Thankfully I had a wonderful assistant in Indira who helped a tremendous amount. It was tough, but I barely got it all edited together on the morning of the 15th, the day it was due. I hope you enjoy it. I had a ton of fun making it and presenting it at the Showdown in Chinatown.

This clip is no big deal, it's rather just getting used to a new camera (Panasonic V700). It's light and small enough (just) to be a helmet cam on a motorbike and quality enough for all the rest. And thank you mobygratis.com.
