            • Basilica Tessera | Pre-render 1

              from Petko Tanchev Added 96 2 0

/// Textures were made using DLSR photos and Photoshop. /// Geometry models were made in 3ds Max. /// Transformations, displacement, instancing, GLSL, cameras, rendering were made in TouchDesigner. /// Pre-compose and final export were made in AfterEffects. "Basilica Tessera" is a multi-channel site-specific installation in Small Basilica Museum, Plovdiv. The project has an educational purpose. It juxtaposes the aesthetics of our cultural past with the modern development of digital reality. Early Christian mosaics in the Basilica become composition of digital images, texts and sounds. "Basilica Tessera" e transformation of matter, archaeological findings in the technological fantasy. It was exposed during "NIGHT/ Plovdiv: Museums and Galleries" 2014 including: /// Pre-rendered animation with mosaics, projected on the facade of the Basilica. /// Real-time rendered interactive visualization and generative sound. A mounted Leap Motion sensor was sending its data values to TouchDesigner (animation) and Max/MSP (audio). By moving their hands and gesturing visitors were able to change the transformation of the geometry models and the virtual camera, as well as various parameters of the sound in real time. /// Pre-rendered animation of text on the history and restoration of the mosaics, displayed on two LCD monitors. /// Real-time rendered interactive text, displayed on a single LCD monitor with mounted Leap Motion sensor. It allowed visitors to show, hide or change the words on the screen. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Petko Tanchev – idea, visualization, interactive system Stefan Donchev – sound Shtiliana Andonova – photography Elena Kantareva-Decheva – consultation, text Mina Bospachieva – text Hanna Marushchak – translation Institute "Old Town" – partner "Plovdiv Drama Theater" – partner //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Interview (BG): http://www.night.bg/blog/?p=6531 Photos and screenshots: https://www.flickr.com/photos/130458030@N07/sets/72157650687838016/ Info for the Basilica: http://www.romanplovdiv.org/ //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Базилика Тессера" е многоканална сайт-специфик инсталация в Малката Базилика, Пловдив.

              • Rome National Museum - Palazzo Massimo

                from Ian Odgers Added 24 0 0

The principal National Museum of Rome is at the Palazzo Massimo near the Baths of Diocletian. Among the collection of sculptures is the Boxer of Quirinal, a Hellenistic Greek bronze dating from around 330 BC. Another important sculpture is the Lancelotti Discobolus, a 2nd century AD marble copy from a bronze original by the 5h century BC Greek sculptor Myron. There are also bronze sculptural fittings from ships built by the Emperor Caligula in the first century AD which were found in Lake Nemi, south of Rome. They include animal heads and a head of Medusa. Mosaics and wall frescoes are also displayed. An important series of frescoes (30-20 BC) depict a lush garden with birds and flowers from the Villa of Livia Drusilla (wife of Augustus) at Prima Porte near Rome, and frescoes from the Villa Farnesina in Trastevere dating from the first century BC. I made this movies from still images taken with my Panasonic ZS40 camera on a visit in July 2014.
