redroom² https://vimeo.com/118302683 The title of the project is a clear reference to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining: remember redrum? All the following collerations: red, intense, being closed, reverse (eg. in Kubrick's film: horror in bright spaces) come up with this title. After the "room" though the ² squaring symbol goes: this stands for multiplying surfaces by themselves: a boosted square becomes a cube. All the participants of this project got the simplest setup to begin and end with: a single red sphere in the center of square canvas. That basic layout became a playground for exploring 3D space. The major challenge of this task was to achieve an illusion of space and depth not just by using certain software tools, but by conciously using design methods and knowledge: to create a sense of spatial relations and surprise, in a brief loopable form. We were discussing different methods to achieve that along the way: various design theories (eg gestalt), trompe l'oeil, ma & mu, positive vs negative space, inner vs outer, convex vs concave, empty vs packed, singularity vs multiplicity etc. To help the participants focus on those particular problems, and to achieve coherence of all the animations, the color palette was reduced to red, white and black only. Everyone was to create 3 loopable animations. redroom³ Than we took the results to another level: we decided to check, how those spatial samples would work if they were treated as videomapping samples. For that purpose another AE template was prepared: to let everyone see how their animations would look like if projected onto a cube's inner or outer corner. All the animations are planned to be exhibited as cube-based videomapping installation. The project was designed especially for Olga Wroniewicz's The Animation Principles. Multimedia course. The course is obligatory for 2nd year MA students, and is a part of Multimedia Studio's programme @ SNM PJATK, Warsaw.

Arturo Berned, in collaboration with Toyo Ito (Pritzker Award 2013) April 1- September 30, 2014, Grin Grin Park, Island City, Fukuoka, Japan Over the course of 2013 and 2014, Spain and Japan will celebrate the 400 anniversary of the “Keicho Mission”, which departed from Sendai, Japan in 1613 and arrived in Spain on year later. This commemoration is known as the Spain-Japan Dual Year, under which several intercultural events take place throughout both countries. “MU” is a reference to a blank sheet of paper, an attitude of openness without preconceived ideas nor prejudices and is a tribute to Japan and its people. This exhibition is comprised of eight sculptures, which relates to the important significance of the number eight in Japanese culture as a symbol of prosperity and growth. Recently awarded the Pritzker Prize, master Toyo Ito carried out an experimental project at Grin Grin Park which encompasses a functional park surrounding a circular pond with a vantage point overlooked by a gently curved greenhouse. Six of the eight sculptures are scattered throughout the open spaces between the pond and the greenhouse, provoking an alternative path further to the existing one, which is simultaneously in dialogue with the edifice. The seventh of the sculptures is located at the Embassy of Spain in Tokyo. The final sculpture which forms the exhibition is conceptually distinct from the other seven and is entitled “DUAL YEAR”.

This is a mini sneak peak into my many layered and multi-step creative process when I create a painting. To give a little background, I am creating my paintings in my outdoor studio, under the natural sunlight, clean, fresh air, the moon, the stars and the vast sky. I work amongst the garden, the trees hummingbirds, the honey bees, the flowers and all of the elements, even raindrops! My paintings go through many steps and stages before a painting is truly complete, using a variety of mediums, tools and tricks of my trade. What you are seeing in this brief snippet, is one of my steps of this painting, Fire III, one of three so far in my Fire Series, one element of my Elements Collection. The inspiration for Fire and Water. Legends speak of an ancient culture of advanced beings, submerged in the ocean and buried beneath the sands of time. Not of the lost city of Atlantis, but an entire continent known to us only as "Mu." The inhabitants of Mu are said to have been artistically and spiritually inclined, and those immortal energies live on in the paintings and vision of Lórien. Is there a connection between Hawai'i and Mu? The late James Churchward learned of Mu and its inhabitants by reading ancient tablets, written in a language known by only a handful of individuals more than a century ago. This once-thriving continent disappeared during cataclysmic shifts in the earth's crust, leaving no trace. But a continent that is returned to the earth's fiery core is destined to live again . . . and may be found, reborn in the Hawai'ian and Pacific islands, with a beauty that echoes in the painting you see here. Enjoy!
