Some people see pilots as fearless, confident, arrogant, but they are no different than you or me, just willing to put it all on the line to keep our warbirds legacy alive at their own personal sacrifice. This mini doc. is to show what it’s like to be a warbird pilot. These guys are keeping our history alive by flying and maintaining these legacy aircraft for future generations. Some of these guys were born into the life style, while others that have worked their way into the small community. Most pilots come off as fearless, confident, and sometimes arrogant but there is a reason for this. Fear can get you killed up in the air but confidence can get you home safely! We explore the aspects of flying these birds, the bad/difficult parts, the passion behind it/why they do it, the tragedies, the joys and the fears of this life style. John-Curtiss Paul talks about the life of maintaining and flying the old birds but also the life he potential leaves behind with each flight. There are only a handful of people in the world that are even capable of doing what John-Curtiss Paul does. Directed by - Rob W. Scribner Director of Photography - Rob W. Scribner Producer - Melissa Thompson, John-Curtiss Paul Camera Operators - Rob W. Scribner, Melissa Thompson Editor - Rob W. Scribner Post Audio Producer - Eric Bower Talent - John-Curtiss Paul, Mark Peterson, Chauncey Reese, Gavin Thompson, Sander Curtiss Paul Music From - The Music Bed Music By - Tony Anderson - Open Arms Dexter Britain - Did you feel Mark Doubleday - Sunrise Most of this project was filmed on the FS100 but we also use a 7D, 60D, and Go-pro Footage. The FS100 was the A cam; we did not have a ton of lenses to work with...mainly the 18-200mm Sony E-mount and a 20mm Sony E-mount 2.8 which worked great for fast shooting. The trick for us was making good use of the Tiffen ND filters. We shot all the interviews at 24p and most of the Broll in 60p (S & Q). There were a few times I change to 1080 60p internal to the cam because I wanted to capture audio that I could use later in post but also want to slow it down to 24p. The 7D, which was our B cam also had a stock lens, the 18-135mm Canon EF. This was also the cam we used for the time-lapse shots. We had to be scrappy when making this project which was actually really fun. The project was finished up and edited in Premiere Pro CC.

In 1999, Was my frist trip to Nepal. I can say it totally change my life forward! I was born in the Alps and was so attracted by the himalayan mountains. I did the Annapurna circuit at that time with my best friend Oliver. I was looking for the tibetan culture , inspired by some adventurous person like Alexandra David Neels and Olivier Folmi .When you do the Annapurna circuit there is a small village called Kagbeni at a 3400meters of elevation. This is the entrance to an hidden valley called Mustang. This aera is a restricted aera . that means you are not allowed to get there without a special permit and a guide and a to be a group of a minimum of 2 person. We staied in there a couple of days , it has been probably my best moment ever . Since 1999, i visited Nepal almost 19th time and discovered several places but i always kept inside me to coming back to Kagbeni. So i finally find the right time to get there in May 2013. It was also a good chance to be trekking with my fellow friend and guide Deny. He was also excited to visit this new area. Here is the movie about this 10 days trekking we did in Upper Mustang. I was first suprised to see how the Annapurna circuit changed . Now it is possible to reach Kagbeni by bus or Jeep , making Kagbeni in a close future not as attractive as it was in the past . This trekking was amazing. First the landscape were outstanding , geology really similar to the Grand Canyon, it was really dry and colorful rocks.i also visited some of the most interesting monasteries i've seen in Himalayas . And get chance to assist at the creation of a sand Mandala. The highlight of this trek was the meeting of Yangchen , she is young local girl and invite Deny and me to stay with her and her family. It was a great experience and i will never forget it. If you need more information about this trekking , don't hesitate to contact me . Hope you will enjoy it. The Horsemen performance during the Flying Legends Airshow in Duxford. The Horsemen Aerobatic Team are the world’s only P-51 Mustang aerobatic team, comprising three warbird pilots who have a passion for showcasing the P-51 Mustang. The mission of The Horseman is to bring greater interest to the world of historic aviation and to remind future generations of how these powerful machines helped the Allies change the outcome of WWII. Jim Beasley serves as the Horsemen Flight Lead. In addition to the Mustang, he flies the T-6 Texan and Spitfire XVIII. Jim is also a civilian pilot for the USAF Heritage Flight program. Dan Friedkin also flies the T-6 Texan, Spitfire, Wildcat and various helicopters. The USAF recently selected Dan as a Heritage Flight civilian pilot. Ed Shipley is the founder of the group and is a long-time air show performer with more than 18 years of experience flying the T-6 Texan, P-51 Mustang, the F8F Bearcat and the F-86 Sabre. He was also one of the civilian founders of the USAF Heritage program and serves on the International Council of Air Shows’ Board of Directors. The Horsemen fly their formation aerobatic routine in 3 original P-51 Mustangs which previously served in WWII. These authentic Mustangs are owned by two of the pilots. Nearly 15,000 Mustangs were built in WWII at a cost of $50,000 each. Today, approximately 150 Mustangs remain flying at an average cost of around $2,000,000 Thank you Jim, Dan and Ed for your beautiful display, for your sympathy and your autograph on our golden pass ! A beautiful memory of Duxford ! Much of their footage can be found on www.ASB.tv Shot with a Sony HVR-Z1 in HDV. Music by Rob Dougan. Edited on FCP. Not graded.
