Why is there such an obligatory feeling to work on ones holiday? In most case scenarios, I wouldn't have bothered bringing and burdening myself with my new Nikon toy & its accessories on my week off. But I was going to Myanmar, a nation that I have placed close to my heart and visually strikes me as one of the most photogenic countries I have even seen. Filmed & Edited by Patrik Wallner Motivation by Tobias Ulbrich and Tommy Zhao Music by Jean-Claude Vannier Illustrations by Dan Zvereff For more info, visuals & films on Myanmar such as 'The Mandalay Express' go to www.visualtraveling.com

A short visual and musical journey through wonderful Myanmar (Burma). Me and my friend Lucas were traveling on a boat for 24hours from Yangon to Pathen and stayed on the deck with all other people - locals, traveling to small villages along the river. They enjoyed following every move we make as if they were watching TV and also enjoyed being photographed and seeing their pictures on the camera screen. One little girl, came to us and brought a handful of fruits. It seemed that all Myanmar fits in those small hands. In 2010 i felt in love. I was just dreaming to make a second trip there. Here is a footage about 3 weeks of travelling i did last december . It did the common trip started from Yangoon and visit Manadalay, Hsipaw, Pyin Oo Lyin, Bagan and Inle Lake. It's an amazing country quite undevelopped and people are so friendly and still have innocent smile which is more and more rare in South Asia. The new government seems to be much better than the previous one and things will change quickly.Myanmar start to be more open to tourism.Hope it will remain preserved for a while... Music : Patrick Watson Fireweed. Shot with a Canon 5DII. 24-105L/4 70-300L/4-5,6.

Edited with Final Cut Pro. Postproduction with After Effects. Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Since so many asked for more information: The sunsets/sunrises were shot with an intervalometer at 10 sec (the Balloons in the intro were at 1 or 2 sec) Most of the other stuff was shot in regular video HBR mode and later sped up in post to whatever speed needed. The effect was created manually in AE and so were many masks. Quite a lot of shots were handheld, since I travelled without tripod, so they were also stabilzed in AE later. Music: Tchaikovsky - Piano Concerto No. 1

Some stories , you can relate . Some you can't. When you make the decision to follow your dreams and make your life as adventurous as it is possible, you had to make some "CHOICES". In this short movie , there is not one , but several stories and only one thread.A choice of a lifetime's man who decided 20 years ago to discover as much as he can our beautiful world. This short movie is A Retrospective of my best moments filmed over the last 3 years compiled in this short sequence. It's a mix of different trips in different country around the world . I wanted to showcase in this clip all the facets of cinematography i had experiment from time-lapse to aerial photography. Filmed in different location: Iceland,Norway,Sweden,USA,Japan,Myanmar,Vietnam,Nepal,France,Italy,Spain,Germany. Having had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, like TV spots for the Grey Cup, Toronto Tourism, CBC and CTV Television series the past year has been coloured by a certain frenetic excitement. I found myself pulled in new directions, and grew from the challenges I encountered. However, I won't deny that the obligations to such projects left my passion waning. The eagerness I felt before began to fade, so I abandoned my apartment, and all the furniture that made it home, to set out on an adventure through East Asia. Like my plans for the trip, Trading Nirvana made itself up as I went along. I focused on shooting interesting situations, and tried to allow each scene to tell its own story rather than conforming to something preconceived. The result is a collection of meaningful experiences that give a different perspective on everyday situations. I augmented the shots by playing them both backwards and forwards, sped up and slowed down. Most of these scenes take place in Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and China. There is something sweet and sour; beautiful and melancholic, about what I witnessed. I want to share that with everyone. I still haven't fully grasped what I want to do with all of the footage I've compiled, so this is the first of the series. Thanks for watching. Whether soaring over 2,000 pagodas at sunrise in Bagan, boating through Inle Lake's floating fishing villages, or simply interacting with the locals, you quickly realize Myanmar is a true gem. Armed with a couple of Canons and overpriced lenses, we shot this during our 9 day adventure in Myanmar. We've never met a kinder, more hospitable people in our lives.
