Video essay about the prison camp of Bentiaba/São Nicolau in Namibe, southern Angola. Founded in 1961, it served as a political prison camp until after Angolan independence (1975). The history of this place invokes a challenging debate concerning history and memory in Angola. Produced by Ruy Llera Blanes, in the framework of the research project CURRENTS (http://currents-of-faith.ics.ul.pt/). Soundtrack: "Yugawara" The Head of the Elephant 2001, Nippon Ai. GigantikArpz is a contemporary musical instrument / sound installation with 10 long piano strings of 75 meters assembled across lakes, rivers, along beaches and in parks. It's made of two pairs of resonating boxes fixed to the ground on each side of the margins of a lake, in this case at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's park in the center Lisbon. This piece for GigantikArpz and electronics was written by Victor Gama and Pedro Carneiro for the Next Future Festival of Contemporary Arts and Culture in 2011, performed in two movements, one during the day and another at night. The GigantikArpz has been installed earlier at the Earagail Arts Festival in Ireland, the Serralves Foundation's Serralves em Festa in Porto and other major open air venues.

is a pilot documentary on the research developed by Augusto Zita, a young Angolan anthropologist who, in 1983, started a research project in the Namibe desert based on the concept of Utopia and how that concept represented the motivations of European expansionism in the world and particularly in his country. Augusto Zita was one of the first African anthropologists to reversed the direction of the anthropological inquiry in the attempt to understand the colonial societies that had established themselves in his country, by researching their cultural symbols and values imprinted on the infrastructure built throughout centuries of presence there and the organization, administration and use of the territory.
