These cows seem to mostly fend for themselves but I believe belong to a nearby rancher. During rainstorms they take cover under the nearby trees and seem to get most all their food from naturally grazing the area and their water from well placed water troughs. Filmed at Briones Park in the East San Francisco Bay Area. Shot & produced by Alex Burke. Contact: alexburke777@yahoo.com Music by: Felxprod - Down The River (feat. Thallie Ann Seenyen): http://youtu.be/vSyndTkPj7g Please watch in HD, thanks for viewing.

In March of 2010, Mike Hanson, blind since birth, took on the 2,174 mile Appalachian Trail to make a statement about the competence and independence of the visually impaired and to publicize the 70% unemployment in that population. A man of True Grit, "Bulldog" became his trail-name and for the next 6 and half months he faced the rugged and sometimes dangerous mountain footpath which is the Appalachian Trail. Along the way he encountered other hikers from all walks of life and ages with their own reasons for taking on this grueling odyssey, a touching and supportive hiker culture, magnificent scenery and wildlife, plus historical and humorous side stories along his trek. He was accompanied, but not led, by filmmaker Gary L. Steffens who captured his challenges and victories and is producing a 16 hour series about his story. 13 of 16 hours are completed (9/14) with most of the work currently focused on completing side stories (such as the story of the Brown Mountain Creek exslave settlement, The Little Ottie Cline Powell monument-in 1882 five year old Little Ottie Cline Powell wandered away from school and passed away on the top of Bluff Mountain, the Palmerton Superfund site, Glasgow, VA: The Town that Time Forgot, the small marker in the middle of nowhere that only said Rex R. Pulford, 1922-1983, hermit Uncle Nick Grimstaf, "He lived alone, suffered alone and died alone." and others). Music scoring is primarily Appalachian blues and acoustic folk with some Americana orchestration. Projected completion roughly March 2015. Please see Facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Hanson-Appalachian-Trail-Campaign/189755727503 for frame grabs and the story from the trail as it occurred plus updates on the progress of the series. Independent feedback on the completed 1 hour 45 minute "Georgia" section has been highly positive. "I watched the video on Saturday.....LOVED it!!!!! The characters stuck with me all the next day and I wanted to see more. When the story started to unfold at Mike's house, that's when it started to be very gripping for me. I loved the grocery shopping, the lightening of the packs, the trail stuff, going down the hills on their butts, ect. It was SO good!!!!!!! This is a great piece." "My wife and I watched it last night. We really liked it. We want to see more. It was very interesting and inspiring. The music was spot on." "I can't praise this enough. The repacking scene, the music, the beginning with the background information. I really liked the interviews and want to see them continued in the film." Episode 1 and 2: "This is the best documentary I've ever seen!" Episode 3: "We really enjoyed episode 3!" Episodes 1-3: "It's as good as things I've seen on PBS and better than some I've seen." Episode 4: "It was soooooo good. Excellent-made me laugh and made me cry. It was so much fun. Nothing on TV so decided to watch something fun. Love "crazy neighbor," bikers who lost their daughter. Wow! Episodes 5 thru 9 await completion of side stories and haven't been sent out for review. Episode 10: It was "riveting"..... At some points we were brought 2 tears watching Mike struggle especially when he had 2 crawl up the rocks on The Beaver Brook Trail and the horrible wind & rain on Moosealaukee which reminded Bain of the conditions Shackleton encountered on his trek across Anarctica after his ship became frozen in the ice! The music choices were very appropriate, Mr. Hitchcock, with just enough intensity 2 fit the challenge. As always, the scenery was spectacular (on your third camera) and, although we had seen parts of it before, it all flowed together beautifully. Great job! We await the next installment. We so enjoyed watching the latest installment of the video: the photography, the scenery and the adventure, the wonderful music, and the inspiring story itself. I was captivated by the sheer determination of the hours-long hike up Moosilauke, the late-night camp out on the way to Mt. Washington (wow!), and the heart-warming story of the $100 bill. Loved the fiddle music, too. Mr. Hanson's grit and your unfailing good nature and support both flow through the story. Thank you for your interest in Mike Hanson's quest to change perceptions and open doors for the visually impaired.
