The PeaceWeavers are an intentional community in Bath, NY. The core group runs an organic farm and peace & healing sanctuary on Thunder Mountain, but many PeaceWeavers do not live on Thunder Mountain. In July, 2014, a group from Thunder Mountain and a few parents took 22 teenagers on a road trip in two RVs, one van, and several cars across the country to meet with elders and learn how to live more peacefully and in harmony with the planet. I met up with the H.O.M.E (Healing Our Mother Earth) Caravan in Colorado and traveled with them through Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. When I got back to Brooklyn, I had a week to put together this short film for the Quickie Crest Film Festival at Crest Hardware. The main idea is that living in a caravan for a month translates to living on our planet, and we can all benefit from the lessons these teens are learning.

Thanks for support from the Ute Nation Tribal Wellness Center, we were able to travel to Utah to hold a demo and skate comp for the locals there. This is the skating that went down on our trip! We had an amazing time sharing good vibes with the locals and one another. It was truly a trip for the books! Thanks to Anthony Guzman of the Wellness Center for coordinating this and finding the support to make this all possible!

The Native American Business Incubator Network (NABIN) was crafted to respond to the unique circumstances of the Navajo and Hopi reservations. It was initiated to 1) provide effective support to entrepreneurs through counseling and mentorship connections and 2) bolster the entrepreneurial environment by supporting business development through trainings, workshops, and roundtable discussions. Clients are chosen through an application and interview process. After they are selected, clients receive tailored one-on-one advising from a culturally competent business counselor. The incubator’s clients meet with the business counselor to develop a business plan and discuss other aspects related to the growth of the business. Clients also gain access to valuable pro-bono services from a professional mentor network through a partnership with Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology. These mentors provide assistance to the clients in many different areas such as patent licensing and trademarking.
