The neutrophil is a powerful defender, ejecting a 'net' of DNA, histones, and anti-microbial agents to kill pathogenic invaders, but failure to remove fragments of these Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) can lead to autoimmune diseases.

This animation shows a general overview of extravasation in a human capillary. Neutrophils can be seen rolling through the capillary and one passes between the endothelial cells, in a process called diapedesis. The actual interactions between the neutrophil and the CAMs expressed on the endothelial cells' surfaces are not shown. Music: "The Journeyman Joiner", by Zero V

The Hunt: A dramatization of the immune system. A bacterium attacks a red blood cell and a neutrophil responds to the SOS call. Then, the chase starts, a chase which is not as theatrical as one would thought by looking at Dr. David E. Rogers work ( youtube.com/watch?v=I_xh-bkiv_c&feature=related ). www. scixel.es

This movie is a dramatic representation of the famous video by Professor David E. Rogers. You can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_xh-bkiv_c&feature=related It shows how a human neutrophil chases and finally catches a bacteria among red blood cells. The behaviour of both (the bacteria and the neutrophil) seems to be human-like although this is impossible because both are single cells. In any case, the video impressed me so much that I decided to make a kind of dramatic movie telling the same story. I have used Blender for the animation and LMMS for the music (which by the way, it is also mine). Hope you like it!
