The concept of Chew and Swallow/Chabao aur Gatako deals with the visual representation of the way we learn and use a language orally as compared to its written form. The way we learn to construct and deconstruct our thoughts in a language is by understanding its grammar. My exploration led me to the understanding that the grammar of the oral language, which is essentially self taught and personalised, is a contextual and a real time grammar with a sense of immediacy in it. It is highly dynamic, location dependent and the vocabulary learnt and used is need based and the relation between a specific sign and its signifier and signified is usually visualised based on past experiences. The grammar of the written language, on the other hand, is essentially static and follows a universal syntax and a uniform written form(script). The vocabulary is memorised and has redundancy with the real time context being absent. The universal grammar in this case is taught and memorised. Hinglish is a language which has formed out of the mixture of two languages, each with their specific written form. But hinglish still remains a language which is highly variable, personalised and retains all the characteristics of an oral language. The way it is used and the vocabulary used vary as we move from one geographical location to another. “What does hinglish look like?” has been answered in Chew and Swallow/Chabao aur Gatako by visualising it as a language which is oral in its nature and hence using the grammar of the written language with a memorised vocabulary can only lead to a “Brain Freeze” situation. The representation is of a child learning by visualising and answering the unknown as his experiences grow and eventually aging into an adult who is learning by consuming and memorising words without context.

"You Are My Sunshine: Yes, there is no such thing as global warming?" Based on readings from the book, "Field Notes From A Catastrophe," by Elizabeth Kolbert along with personal observations and understandings of the changes in natures cycles. The work is a reflection on change in nature, politics, economies and ourselves, especially when we are unwilling or in denial of those changes as they happen regardless of our efforts. The work is an aesthetic reply to those who think there is no shift occurring in our natural world externally or internally. Two separate videos, one of the artist shivering naked in a loop and the other of a fireplace crackling, are projected onto 3/4's of a ton of melting ice. The time-based work lasts only as long as the ice itself. As the night wore on the image of the flames on one side began to composite with the image of the freezing artist on the other.

"The little cartoon bird by Watanabe is living in that buzzy place where transformation might happen, staggering comically across the gallery wall along one of the building's exposed pipes. Watanabe knits together two dimensions and three; you don't have to choose between material and immaterial planes, because they're linked. Best of all, despite the intelligence of the work, the bird doesn't take himself too seriously. He's a parody of neurosis. He calms down if you crank the music, and a set of tin cans "send" the music box's sound from your hand to his needy ear." -Jen Graves, The Stranger

CUBIIC is a novel interface that lets users mix audio and video in real time. Audio and video clips are selected by flipping different sides of Plexiglass cubes. Two users can interact to create an improvised collaborative performance with data shared between two stations. CUBIIC is the latest in a series of innovative media manipulation tools created by interdisciplinary artists Lyes Belhocine and Drew Detweiler. Their work has been exhibited at the Absolute Zero festival in San Jose, Zeum- The Children's Museum of San Francisco, Public Works gallery, and the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts.

Play || Jazz is an installation involving abstract visuals, audience interactivity and ambient jazz music. The installation invites audiences to generate both sound and visuals through interacting with the art work and each other. The colours and imagery generated during the play || jazz experience are extracted from abstract photography taken locally and internationally. Locations include Vancouver, New York, Istanbul, Pacific Spirit Park, Bali, and Sao Paulo. Through interacting with the artwork and each other participants have the opportunity to recreate an abstract, interactive landscape, using both the physical body and technology as a dualistic paint brush.
