Their scattered shadows fall lightly on clear water, encroaching on the their subtle scent pervades the moonlit dusk..." Lin Bu 林逋 Legend has it that once on the 7th day of the 1st lunar month Princess Shouyang 壽陽公主, daughter of Emperor Wu of Liu Song 劉宋武帝, was resting under the eaves of Hanzhang Palace near the plum trees. The blossoms were blooming most vibrantly amidst the winter snow, exuding an ethereal elegance. After wandering in the gardens, a plum blossom drifted down onto her fair face, leaving a floral imprint on her forehead that enhanced her beauty even further. Since that day, so it is said, all the court ladies, have started wandering underneath that plum tree, caressing the root, watering the trunk and taking care of the flourishing plants, endlessly hoping to receive the beauty that lies in Mei Hua.

If you descend at precisely the correct speed and trajectory, it is possible to elude gravity. That Newtonian force, which constantly draws everything to everything, can be momentarily overcome. Floating freely amidst this parabolic arc, conflicting emotions arise. Bliss, perhaps. Certainly some form of liberation. Freedom from the laws of physics. Freedom from our fellow man. Detachment, isolation, loneliness; the flip-side of the same coin. All in all, it is the unbearable lightness of being. The thrills and fears of solitude, my ascent in adagio. The local old man, sleeping on, something that almost resembled a bench, didn’t notice the theft of his hat either. -I got away with it! Success! -I proudly stated, already claiming the victory.- Are they still chasing me?- I turned around to check up on my oppressors. With true passion for their profession, they were few meters behind me. -Darn it! I can’t believe it. They usually give up after a 100 meters. This shockingly disgusting devotion is now annoying me! –Saying this I made a quick turn and to my relief I saw busy alleys of a trade market! -Fantastic! I will fit in right away! –I thought with a glimpse of hope. Few steps into what I thought was a perfect escape plan, I noticed the crowd was not moving. Something huge was blocking it. I elbowed my way through the crowd only to discover that a cart with a humongous pile of bundles was slowing everyone down. -That’s it! - I cried. – A pile of rubbish and an old man pushing it will finish my career as a thief. I banged my head against the tragic wall. Few mice startled by the blow, jumped from their hide-out and climbed to the top of the stack. Without wasting any more time I did the same. With few swift moves I was on top of it, safe and away from the justice. http://www.island6.org/ProvidentialPlunder.html

A Home Inside A Hexahedron manifested itself through one distinct question; how can we materialize an object that is realized in the mind despite its physical inconceivability’s. It seems beyond the bounds of possibility to produce an object, which contains a volume of space that is larger than its container. We were challenged to translate immaterial matters of the mind into physical space and objects .The claustrophobic nature of the private moments, which take place in one’s home, is translated through the arrangement and construction of the objects in space which make up that home; the walls and the furniture. As a result the viewer is introduced to an entangled world, bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Technically, A Home Inside a Hexahedron houses a linear actuator inside its plinth as the main foundation of the mechanics. Guides were welded and cut to allow the motor to extend and retrieve to its full potential. Enabled through a motor controller, the motor runs in sequences, each time being stopped by switches mounted on each end. Both the switches and motor connect into an arduino placed underneath the plinth. Pre loaded into the arduino is a manufactured code that uses to sensors as its initial trigger. Two EZ1 sonar sensors are placed at the bottom front side of the plinth pointed up at 45 degrees. Both sensors work hand in hand with arduino to navigate the pre determined threshold that when passed, will trigger the motor to run. Thus, once an individual approaches the plinth, the threshold is reached; the motor turns on and runs until it reaches the top switch. After the motor reaches the top switch, a timer is set for 8-seconds that allows the individual to take in all the detailed work within the project. Then the motor will turn back on until it reaches the bottom switch, which in turn shuts off the motor. After an additional 5-second timer, the entire sequence is reset and the sensors begin rereading.
