Kavak Prakash : Light Interface Version at The Story Of Light Festival, 2015 celebrating 2015 International Year of Light and Light Based Technologies Concept Abhinav Mishra and Vinay Hasija Electronics and Logistics Lead Vinay Hasija Design, Mechanics and Production Lead Abhinav Mishra Kavak Prakash was an interactive art installation at The Story Of Light Festival in Goa. The concept was to develop electromechanical organisms that dwell in dark and neglected spaces and communicate through change in light, colour and form. We took inspiration from deep sea bioluminescent creatures and created our own abstractions that live in the human context (on land). The concept, form and behaviour were designed, fabricated and executed during the end period of the residency ( about 1 week ) preceding the Festival in Porvorim, Goa. The Light Interface Version was installed in the ignored and forgotten Giant Fish at Miramar Beach. The Light Interface version was sensitive to flashes of light and was designed for the context of the fish at Miramar. You would send a flash of light and a group of organisms would send light signals back at you. A huge chunk of work involved cleaning and painting the fish and its surroundings. The following video is a compilation of the footage and photographs shot during the Residency and after The Festival. This is a compilation of video taken during the ImagineRIT Festival (May 1, 2014) of people interacting with the Spark* exhibit. Spark* is an Open Source, web based application intended to inspire today's youth to engage in computer science education. Driven by Leap Motion technology, this experience was crafted as part of New Media Team Project, a senior level class at Rochester Institute of Technology. As three designers from the New Media Design program and five developers from the New Media Interactive Development program, none of us would be where we are today if it weren't for the recent advances in computer science. We hope to accelerate that process in today's young minds.
