August was good times up at Snow Park. With sunny skies and competitions on the daily we had several overseas riders drop in. Have a watch and see the likes of Zak Hale, Danny Davis, and Mark McMorris smash laps alongside NZ local shredders Liam Ryan, Connor Harding, Hamish Martin, and Jay Walsh to name a few. After four days of waiting around for luggage and making way too many phone calls to Air New Zealand baggage services, Mat Jackson's equipment finally made it to Queenstown. Ralph and Mat were able to spend the day at Treble Cone where snow conditions were thin and less than ideal. We spent they day shredding around what terrain they had open and taking in New Zealand’s spectacular scenery. We hope you enjoy this little taste of winter. Even though the snow wasn’t great we still laughed our way though the day and smiled at the fact we were sliding on snow again.

Split a series on Splitboard touring in NZ 2011. Slit Episode 1, Brewster Hut. The winter season is finished in NEw Zealand for 2011 as we collect a hand full of friends to go Hike to ride. Equipped with splitboard and everything you need we take of on a 7 day adventure, Split Episode 1 is a 7.45m video edit of the first 2 days..A warm up for Fox Glacier. Based out of Tim’s batch a local Heli Guide in Wanaka his place is renowned as the oldest most ghetto Batch known as the asbestos palace. We study over maps and sort our gear and try to recruit more team players. I have now done 2 days on my split-board and have sorted out a few problems so im feeling good. We chase down Colin Boyd, Colin is currently on top of the ladder for the Freeride World Qualifying series and Heidi an enthusiastic chick from Finland who decides to join us for the first 2 days. With Andy Lagan training to be a guide and Myself we have a good size group to go spend the next week together, In these huts we need to take sleeping bags and all food and cooking gear. We sort out our gear and make some crucial last minute purchases. The preparation starts to take a while with a food shop and the usuals associated. We eventually make it to the start of day one at altitude 450m its 5.30 pm and we have a 1000 m vertical hike up threw NZ Beech forest but first a river crossing starting the afternoon with wet feet sets the tone for the hike an knowing we will have head torches out soon. The Beech forest is Incredible so green and lush as the afternoon sun shines threw its hard to think we will hit the snow line and I feel a little like a hobbit on a quest. The tree line finishes and the snow line appears. We arrive in the dark at 8.30 and it feel good to be not hiking anymore. The hut is amazing sitting at 1450m. Freshly rebuilt a few years ago sleep up to 12 comfortly. We eat food and crash out waking the next morning we take off at 11 am after waiting for snow to soften up. Summiting Mt Armstrong 2022m after split-boarding with some crampon action we rest before we get the rewards of this whole mission. The next 5-10 mins is pleasure we get to shred the rad and ride all the way to the hut for lunch. We then pack the remainder of our gear and ride to the tree line before hiking back down. Finishing with an awesome dip in the freezing river its now time for Fox Glacier. We arrived at fox at 11 pm rent a little hut for the night to recharge the battery’s for the camera and of load the data before we go sort our Heli ride. Split Ep2 Fox Glacier coming soon. The World Heli Challenge happened August 3rd through August 5th in Mt. Aspiring National Park near Wanaka, New Zealand. The New Zealand weather proved to be a factor, with one of the biggest storm systems of the decade coming through days before the competition with an extremely high freezing level. For this reason, there was a 2-3 inch ice crust on top of the snow pack, making skiing and snowboarding a bit more difficult. Conditions were far less than ideal for a competition. In addition, avalanches were triggered both fly days of the competition; one before riders rode down to the venue on the freestyle day, and during Ted Davenport's winning run in the extreme day. Travis Rice won on the male snowboard side of things, Ted Davenport in the male skiing category, Ane Enderud for the female skiing category, and Aline Bock for the female boarders. All things considered, a good time was had by all.
