**To buy or rent the film, please go to vimeo.com/ondemand/allbecamegolden All Became Golden is a film and audiovisual record from Essie Jain, conceived by Jain and director Natalie Johns with music arranged by Nico Muhly. In this innovative project, British singer-songwriter Jain's spare and elegant songs are invigorated by Muhly’s tailored arrangements and the backing of a classical orchestra. The film documents the group as they convene to simultaneously rehearse, perform and record the album, allowing a rare glimpse of the joy, risk, generosity and blind faith inherent in acts of creative collaboration. All Became Golden sees Jain moving past the angst and inwardness of her younger self, toward interpretations that reflect her current state of mind: joyful, forward-looking and expansive. Themes of gratitude and empowerment, of saying yes instead of no, of placing trust in yourself and the universe are articulated in Jain’s timeless songs, which comprise both new and older original material, as well as a cover of Dire Straits’ “Why Worry.” The songs were recorded by Grammy-winning recording engineer Justin Guip of Levon Helm Studios and, with a view to this realizing the format of the first audio visual record, Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated music engineer Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones) mixed the entire album to edited performances for each song. Continuing on in the spirit of true independence that gave birth to the film, Martin Mills (Beggars Banquet, 4AD, Matador, Rough Trade) narrates the opening and end of the film. http://essiejain.com facebook.com/essiejainmusic

As part of his preparations for death, he gave her many of his possessions, concealing his purpose in doing so, and when he committed his long-contemplated act, he was alone in a bare apartment. In Companion To An Untold, Aldrich struggles with her own failure to act on her suspicions about her friends intentions. She pieces together the rough timeline of his plan to die and the details of its execution. Yet she acknowledges that she cannot provide a complete narrative of why he killed himself. The story- the aftershocks of his suicide and the author's response to what it set in motion. This book, modeled on the type of reference book called a "companion," attempts to find a form adequate to the way these two-stories crisscross, tangle, knot, and break. Organized alphabetically, the entries introduce, document, and reflect upon how suicide is so resistant to acceptance that it swallows up other aspects of a person's life. Aldrich finds an indirect approach to her friend's death, assembling letters, objects, and memories to archive an un-grievable loss and create a memorial to a life that does not easily make a claim on public attention. Intimate and austere, clear eyed and tender, this innovative work creates a new form in which to experience grief, remembrance, and recognition. "Exquisitely sad but painstaking in its clarity. Companion To An Untold Story is an effort to understand a friend's decision to commit suicide. The author lays out the facts and emotions using the structure of an abecedary, as if the simplicity of a child's alphabet could bring logic to the terrible loss. There is no suspense in the outcome , but the reading the book draws you in so intelligently that you, too, feel an urgent need to understand why an intelligent, likeable man would choose, with great deliberateness, to kill himself. This is a difficult subject, written extraordinarily well, a winner." -Susan Orlean, author of Rin Tin Tin: the Life and the Legend "A wise reflection, both sympathetic and unflinching, on the life and death by suicide of the author's friend. The book poses questions about suicide and the processes leading up to it and provides answers too...when they exist. Perhaps just as importantly, the book leaves unanswerable questions as such, accurately and creatively distilling the experiences of those bereaved by suicide." -Thomas Joiner, author of Why People Die by Suicide Marcia Aldrich is a professor of English at Michigan State University and former editor to the Journal Fourth Genre: Explorations in Non-fiction. She is the author of the memoir Girl Rearing: Memoir of a Girlhood Gone Astray. Her nonfiction essays have been published in a wide variety of literary reviews and anthologies, including The Best American Essays. https://www.facebook.com/marcia.aldrich http://twitter.com/AldrichMax

Purchase the double DVD package here: http://bedroomcommunity.bandcamp.com/album/everything-everywhere-all-the-time-the-whale-watching-tour This is a trailer for the Bedroom Community film Everything Everywhere All The Time. With Sam Amidon, Ben Frost, Nico Muhly and Valgeir Sigurðsson. Also featuring Nadia Sirota. Directed by Pierre-Alain Giraud. Watch the film here: http://icelandiccinema.com/film/176 'It's like forcing two different species to fuck!' And that's no exaggeration. The record label and music collective Bedroom Community is based in Iceland, but draws creative genes from all corners of the world. The collective's multi-talented musicians mix Icelandic, American, and Australian blood. And it's not just blood, but also sources of musical inspiration; a cacophony of classical, folk, punk, electronic, and experimental music. We meet four of them in Everything Everywhere All The Time. The modest and Icelandic Valgeir Sigurðsson, both as a musician and the brains of the operation. The quirky and humorous Sam Amidon comes from the US, where his Vermont folk-roots go far back. Also from the US Nico Muhly brings the classical side as an excellent pianist and composer. The rough-edged Australian/Icelandic Ben Frost delivers the noise aesthetic. Despite all their different backgrounds Bedroom Community's scattered artistry forms a coherent whole in a joint live-performance; The Whale Watching Tour. Along with a line-up of fantastic musicians this film follows Valgeir, Sam, Nico and Ben around the recording studio in Iceland and all over Europe and spotlights the challenging and sometimes difficult aspects of collaboration between these diverse individual talents.
